This message just came into Alpine-L from the owner of one of the larger nurseries, Tony Avent..

Based on a phone call today, it is my understanding that USDA Aphis has
put on hold until January 1, new enforcement of the existing regulation
that will require phytosanitary certificates for all plant and seed
shipments entering the US. If this is correct as was presented to me by
friends who talked with USDA headquarters, this allows some breathing room
for your input to the USDA as well as your representatives.

Let's hope that this is correct and that representations to the USDA will result in withdrawal of this legislation !

Thanks for that Jane. I suspect that like me, some of us Europeans (and other non-US traders) have been hurrying to beat the deadline. We can relax (just a little).

yeah, i was a little worried about trading with the US with this new legislation.. hopefully they'll see sense.

Tashak2, I am posting this response to you here to try to bring this ( my second posting) up on top of the other thread on US restrictions .As you'll see, the cut-off date for imports to USA as been reviewed and is now January 2002 so you still have enough time to order.
