Hello, I'm trying to find a good picture of a kiwi vine, especially the leaves because someone suggested that this plant could be a kiwi. I think its leaves are too fuzzy, but I can't get a good look in the pictures I see of kiwi. Can anyone help?
Kiwi vine picture?
It looks like the kiwis I have had but all of mine have died to I can't help any more than that.

That is definitely a kiwi, actinidia deliciosa in particular I would say.
Scott
Thanks Scottfsmith. Do you know if the kiwi you mention has fuzzy stems with hairy stuff on them and rough leaves (to the touch)? If so, then it must definitely be a kiwi and should probably be in the greenhouse.
I remember those things in my plants.

Yup, you are describing a kiwi. I think that plant will survive outside for you if planted in the ground, VIctoria is warm enough in the winter. Don't keep it in a greenhouse year-round, it needs a dormant period.
Scott
OK Scott. Some people grow kiwis outdoors here, so I'll give it a shot. Thanks.
I believe you also have to have a male and female plant to get fruits. I have a couple of them that I planted this year on my link fence and they are doing well. Just lift up a leaf and look under it, you will be able to tell which one is male and which one is female.... :P
Thank you for that information, but when I look under the leaf I just see...leaf. Believe me, I have no skill in this matter.
Oh no, Maggie.... I was just teasing you about the leaf thing! I was being bad.
Seriously, my plants came identified male and female. I also read somewhere that once they start to grow, they are fast growing but it does take a few years for them to start having fruits.
Sorry about that, Maggie, I was just having fun. :)
No problem! I'll plant it in the garden and just let it have a happy life. It'll be attractive with or without fruit :-)
I just bought some Kiwi seeds, but now I learn that I need a male and female plants.
Does any one know where I can get a picture of adult plants so I can tell what I have when they are grown. Are there any members that have grown them? Thank you
You will need to look at the flowers when they bloom to determine gender.
THERE WAS ONE PLANT THAT WAS CALLED Kiwi Berries that did not need a male and a female plant to produce fruit. here is one of the many links I checked on.

The kiwi variety Issai, a female Hardy Kiwi, is self fertile and will produce fruit without a male. It is not as vigorous as most of the other Hardy Kiwi varieties. Issai is available from many sources.
The kiwi variety, Hero, a female Arctic Kiwi, is reported to be self fertile as well. I have only seen it available from One Green world so far.
