Alien Encounter!

Columbia, TN(Zone 7b)

Forgot to tell you guys about yesterday. My chickens met a rabbit for the very first time! LOL It wasn't much of a rabbit since it was a baby about 3" long. I was sitting in their area visiting with them when all of a sudden all noise ceased. I turned around and all these chickens were frozen staring into a corner. There in the corner was a tiny baby bunny eating leaves and not paying me or the chickens any attention. The chickens looked at it, then me like do something mom. I turned away from them. The geese had been sitting at my feet. They get up (followed by the ducks) and go to inspect the rabbit. The chickens found their voices and they were all quietly making sounds that you just knew meant "is it dangerous?" "Don't ask me, I've never seen one" "You think it will eat us". Once the geese had finished their inspection and walked away from the rabbit the chickens resumed all their normal noises and activity. I could tell they were keeping an eye on the rabbit just in case!

We actually have a rabbit that we call Chicken Bunny. I got loose when he was very tiny and lived in and under the coop for saftey, but now he just likes it. You'll see him lazing in the dirt with the hens on a hot day or tucked in a nest box if it's cool. He even prefers their food to his!

Oh, you guys HAVE to post pictures. I happened to see this post on the main page and can't imagine a bunny/chicken stare-down!

I wish I'd had my camera at that moment! It was one of those moments you wish you could preserve ^_^ long past the time you've eaten the main characters!

LOL too funny. Reminded me of a week or so ago when the baby duck got into the chickens pen and they all ran to one side of the pen away from the duck and stood there looking at it like "what on earth is that thing, sorta looks like us, but those feet, that bill, must be a reject from the hatchery".
