I need some help. For the last 3 springs, my red hot poker blooms like crazy but the blooms only stay yellow, they won't turn red. And then they're just done. For some reason, I thought they bloomed all summer, not just spring. Guess I was wrong. Anyway, why aren't they red? Thanks everyone!

There are some Kniphofia that bloom yellow, pale yellow, chartreuse, etc. Is it possible you have one of these other varieties?

Edit - I've found Kniphofias to be mostly spring bloomers, especially in a hot year. I have found blooming can be extended a little by cutting off the first bloom stalks, before they put energy into going to seed.
