Had to get my hands dirty today

(Taylor) Plano, TX(Zone 8a)

I bought some dish garden terracotta containers today for $6.23 at Wal-mart.

Then some irish moss at one of the local nurseries(one quart 6.99), and used a stepables pratia(4.99), and then tossed on some stuff I already had.

I guess now, I need some other accessories(like an arbor over the bench), but for now it was fun to do, and only took a few minutes.

I had some mini trees planted in it, but had to Un-plant them after I realized I had planted all shade stuff, and the trees were full sun...

So, this was under $20, (until I add more to it...)

I had gone miniature shopping, and unfortunately didn't find much, but I DID find these cute bricks, and a little tea set for my future tea party table :0).

I intend to use them for a pathway, but until I get my structure, I don't want to cut them and commit to a particular shape.

The brick sheet was only $9.99

Here is the back. It is a really fine mesh, and you just cut the shape you want.

They also had a bag of loose bricks, but I imagine I can just use the extras off this one, if I need more.

and the little tea set:

Oh, how cute.
Did you get the bricks at Wal Mart, too?

I'd like to find some more shade mini plants to help "fill in", but planted these for two reasons:

1. I was just itching to make one, lol
&
2. These are drying out too fast in 4" pots, so figured committing them to a larger container would be best for the plants, and I could always transplant, when I get a more solid design down and my accessories ordered...

Here is another dish with mini leptinella. Same story with it. I didn't want the plant to dry out waiting in its 4" pot. The asian fellow and lamp were from an old bonsai container, and I just put them on there to show what a great "grass" the mini leptinella makes...

The bricks and tea set were in the dollhouse section of our local craft store "hobby lobby".

Hobby Lobby..what a great store. I don't know but I don't think we have one here.
I guess Michael's probably has some of that stuff.

(Taylor) Plano, TX(Zone 8a)

I'm pretty sure that our local Michaels does NOT have dollhouse stuff(last I checked) but worth checking again...just in case it has changed

Fountain, FL(Zone 8b)

Well, dag nabbit!
I found a place online one time that sells dollhouses and supplies. I'm not sure of the name of the site but the man that owns(?) it is Ernie Colier. Maybe I spelled his name right.
I really should ck to see if we have a Hobby Lobby now. LOL I don't go to town very often any more.

I was really hoping to find some stuff locally, to save all that shipping, and plus I just figure it would be much cheaper(and it was).

But, unfortunately most of their dollhouse stuff at Hobby Lobby was for indoors or stuff to actually make the dollhouse itself.

Not much of a selection for patio and outdooor stuff

Can you imagine how many different things you could make from one bag of cement? The options are endless. Houses, patios, tunnels and maybe even furniture.
You could use copper wire and fabric to make things like little hammocks or other lawn furniture.
They sell the colorant for cement, so you could color it to fit into your 'decor'.

Sounds like a great idea! My head has been spinning with ideas, also.

I was thinking that I could take those tiny loose bricks, "build" a circular base for a water fountain, paint it, then place a fountain in the middle, and tiny koi around it, and then use that 'pour on' stuff to fill it in, and imitate water...

I'm anxious to try it....may even have to drop a drop of blue food coloring to it, and see if it works...

Fountain, FL(Zone 8b)

Yes, that sounds like it'll work. I can't wait to see it.
I'm not ready to do a fairy garden yet but when I am, I plan to reread every thread here. I'll be able to 'do it up right' then. :-)

Hey Seed your mini garden is fabulous !! Can't wait to see what you do with that sheet of bricks ?

I just got the individual stepping stone rocks and glued them to a thin piece of plastic ( waterproof) and set a bench on it and made look like something you would actually do yourself in your real size yard ? but i like the idea of the strips less work..

Remember you gals can always go to the 99cents store or Dollar Trees for colored rocks and stuff for paths ....or just to add a little color to your gardens.

Those stores are 2 of my favs I get the really nice pretty colored stones and add them to my " real " birdbaths and fountains at home.

Looks great.

The Dollar Tree is one of my favorite stores too. You just never know what you'll find in there that you can't live without.

I was thinking I would lead the path to, or near, the bench, and also an arbor over the bench...(just a simple square-top arbor.)

Then some tiny border edging(saw on one of the sites)

...kinda like in this one from Mystic mt. arts. This is one of my favorites that they've done. So simple, but every time I see it, it captures me. Pretty much all of theirs use the brick sheets

That sounds nice, seedpicker.
I like that one in the picture, too.
This is something I have on my list to do, later, when other things are finished or close to finished but the more I read these posts, the more I want to do it now.

Jackie, you should keep a special notebook beside your computer for all the fairy ideas you read about. Then you won't get discouraged by re-reading long, chatty threads!

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

seed_picker - why not make an arbor out of bent twigs and wire?

Fountain, FL(Zone 8b)

PrimroseSue,
I do have a growing list here on the desk :-) I am beginning to think I will need to start selling body parts to afford all the things I want to do. LOL

Jackie, I hope you're talking about car body parts, and hot human ones!!!

Fountain, FL(Zone 8b)

LOL
Well, I was thinking about an arm but I suppose I'll be needing both of my arms for planting and arranging all the magical fairies & their friends.

I love this new forum. I was at a local nursery and my gosh they had amazing fairy furniture and was also amazingly expensive..... It was almost three hundred dollars. It was like a castle though and glazed really pretty.

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

I know - depending on what you buy (and where), it sure can get pricey!
