how do I get my jujubee tree to friut better?

Batesville, AR

I have 4 jujubee trees 1 large one (about 15 feet tall unknown variety) 1 ly , 1 lang and another unknown ( it is the root stock of a grafted plants , the graft died) these are about 3 ft. tall. They are beginning to flower very well but little friut so far. I live in northern Ark.

Dan you don't mention how old your trees are. I have several jujube trees in their 5th year which have not fruited yet. I expect several of those will fruit this year. One of my trees fruited in its third year, and a few more fruited for the in fourth year.

Jujube require a lot of full sun and heat to produce fruit. If they are not getting both of these, they will not fruit. Partial shade will never work with these trees. It is a good idea to plant multiple varieties even though the are self-fertile.

Hey Scottfsmith, it must be difficult getting the heat they need to produce all the way up there. There is a new variety of Jujube called Winter Delight that may do better in your area. I believe onegreenworld.com carries it. You might want to give it a try.

I can tell you haven't been in Baltimore recently -- its plenty hot here! It looks like this year all my varieties will fruit. I don't think the problem was lack of heat in past years, the trees were just not big enough. They sort of poked along for a few years before taking off.
