You know this colored tree caught my attention! Such a pretty shot.

Thanks - love these trees. They stand out so beautifully against a dark sky.

LOL. I just saw this photo again. I was reading about them tonight and they sound too invasive. But they sure are pretty. Your shot is great of it.

Gosh, I don't think the yellow cv is invasive at all. The regular species is as I get seedlings in the front yard. This tree seems to be having trouble in the UK: http://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profiles0708/robinia.asp

I was reading this http://www.gardeninggonewild.com/?p=122
and read the comments too.

Did Filoli have their Gleditsia triacanthos (Sunburst Honey Locust) in full foliar bloom when you were here? I thought these trees were the same till I checked my notes last night. I would so love to have a lime green focal point in my garden. I would so love to have a garden that could handle it. LOL I am so sick of living small. LOL

Thanks for the article! I learned a few things and have to agree with a few other points. I haven't seen seedlings of 'Frisia' but I guess they do reseed. Considering the city of Vancouver have planted many streets with them, they might have a problem. We can't keep them in stock at the nursery as they "fly out the door". There's a set of 'Purple Robe' on the way to the nursery I drive by and I was disappointed by the length of bloom time - just like she said - "non-descript green foliage" for the rest of the season. I also thought it was a cross with a different species - hispida? I have a 'Umbraculifera' infront of the house and I find seedlings in my garden all the time.

I don't recall a Gleditsia at Filoli but it is a bit late to leaf-out so it might not have been in show when I was there. Your photo shows the Wisteria blooming, as when I was there so maybe I didn't notice it. What an awesome garden...and absolutely wonderful tour-guide! I owe ya. There are quite a few nice lime green focal point plants that might be a bit more manageable in size than the Gleditsia. I know what you mean about small spaces - I'm tripping over the racoons & skunks. I gave the skunk family a taste of their own medicine with the hose. They dig up everything. I'm still kicking myself about that property in Half Moon Bay.

Oh that is so pretty!

So you have skunks? I have skunks! Under my porch. And at night they let go. A few weeks ago I was in a deep dream about the worse smell ever and I remember I was yelling what smells so bad then I woke up and OMG it did for real smell so bad. I ran to my window and closed it. But too late, my whole house reeked. I have a lot of amorphophallus plants and I thought shoot they are all blooming at once. The next day I went out and none were blooming. I realized it was the skunk I see now and then.

The smell was so bad, I went to the couch to sleep and was holding my nose closed trying to fall asleep. I could not. Since then, the skunk has let go about 3 more nights. I now wake up with a jump to shut my window before it permeates everywhere. It has to be the grossest odor ever. I am trying to figure out a way to get rid of it or them. I will say it is a beautiful animal.

I was in HMB just 2 days ago with another Daver. We had the best day. We spent some time sitting on a bench looking out at sea as we chatted. Just a beautiful day. Mike, you could have put a bench on that lot and we all could have sat and stared. And sipped wine.
