I know we have a trash to treasure forum but since I don't post there or visit much, I decided to put this here.
We took the kids to several garage sales this past weekend and while DH & the kids found some great items for next to nothing, I was starting to wonder if I would find something that would appeal to me. At the fifth and final garage sale, I got my little treasure.....a sink!
The sink....my fun project this weekend
Erynne, it's wonderful!!! Very clever recycling, girl!

Thank you Joanne! I'm not usually into doing stuff like this but I thought what the heck...let's try something different.
After I got it set up and planted, I called all the kids out to see and do you know, all four them tried the turning on the taps...ROFLOL! I can't believe they thought I would've had the skills to hook it up to the plumbing ;) Too cute.
Erynne
That's beautiful Erynne! What a find - the taps are gorgeous. Re the taps - I think many of us would turn them just to see if they would turn :-)

What a great idea!!!
Erynne - that's EXACTLY what I had in mind for my mini-hostas last week, but ended up with a Home Sense metal tub. And those fancy faucets make it super special. What a wonderful find.

I think the taps are what really caught my eye....so feminine eh? I'm going to have to plug up the spout so that wasps don't get any funky ideas about living in there. That would freak me out, lol.
Ann, I did ponder the idea of putting some minis in there but the hens & chicks won as I don't have easy access to an immediate hosta supplier around here (that I trust anyway) and I wanted instant gratification, haha.
I'll keep my eyes peeled for another sink.....there's so many cool country garage sales out this way.
Erynne
Nice work Erynne....does look feminine...didn't you just hate putting such a beauty outside..no place in your new 'home'?
Oh, I like that! Where do you have it sitting? Is it 'planted' in the ground?
Sandy
Thanks Betty and Sandy!
Betty, I would've loved to have this inside but the sinks in the two bathrooms are new-ish, with the upstairs one having been installed last year; very modern styles so I can't go messing with that. It would be awesome to have a girly bathroom though! I'll make sure the taps are well protected over winter but I may have to bury the sink in a holding area over winter. Washes off easy enough.
Sandy, lol, this is funny. I have it perched in one of those big black containers that you sent the sedum in! I hunted all over for something that would hold it but then spied those containers and I thought, perfect!
(um, did you want the other two back?, hehe
The spot where it's sitting is what I call a "dead spot" meaning I can't plant anything there unless it is very shallow rooted. We discovered the remains of an old concrete slab that juts out a bit....may have been part of a porch at one time.....DH said it's too much trouble to dig out. So problem solved! BTW, I/we finished building the bed on Sunday that the Sedum will grow in....planted some, more to go tonight I hope! I'm ahead of schedule for once :o)
Erynne
Oh, I get it - it's elevated and the perennials hide the pot. Very resourceful and it looks great!
Sandy
Yes Sandy, that's exactly it! I put a big rock in the bottom of the pot to keep it stable
Nice looking bed in progress! What's that yummy yellow hosta at the end?
Thanks Joanne! That Hosta would be Chinese Sunrise. It's one of the few that was still in a pot from my move and sustained the least amount of damage from the hail that came through here on June 16th. I credit the the big cedar hedge with protecting the potted ones and I only had to remove about 2 bad leaves on Chinese Sunrise.
The ones that were in the ground got pelted pretty bad. I'm going through my moments of being okay with it and then not being okay with it. I sure didn't want to win the award for Hosta uglies so early in the season, lol.
Bought a Regal Splendor to cheer me up today....it's all good.
Erynne
Darn that hail. I had the same thing happen last year about this time. I had just put in twenty or so new hostas I'd gotten from Floral & Hardy and Shades of green and dang if they didn't get shredded like coleslaw. Made me question the wisdom of growing them out in the open in my front yard like I do, with nary a mature tree or shrub for protection. We've had hail a couple of times this year already, but everything is so late in emerging that nothing was terribly damaged. My new hostas this year are 'June Fever' and 'Guacamole'. I really love the yellow/gold hostas...
Oh dear, so you know exactly how I'm feeling right now....it's rather deflating to look upon them like that. I feel like taping them together, lol.
We had hail at the other house last year but all those trees really protected everything.....I need trees!
I love the golds too but I don't like to plant them next to each other because their uniqueness (is that a word?)just fades....to my eye anyway. I don't have either of those Hostas you mentioned but I do want Guacamole...have to go see what June Fever looks like.
This was my one of my faves this spring....English Sunrise (before the hail).
Yeah, I feel your pain....it's crushing to see them so beat up... but at least it's still early in the season; you'll get some new growth on the damaged plants...
Ooo, I forgot you're one of those Hostaholic-enablers...look at you posting that beauteous English Sunrise which I must now have....LOL
Erynne, LOVE the little sink. What a great idea, and to think that someone didn't want the sink anymore... the taps are adorable!
I like it!
That bed will be beautiful..
Thanks driven!
The taps are pretty eh! I love looking at that little sink and the H & C seem happy planted there.
I added more plants to that bed this past long weekend.....Coreopsis, Heliopsis, Scabiosa, Hosta, Heuchera and Fescue. Everything just needs to get growing now.
Here is an updated photo of that bed. I ordered some tulip bulbs that will come later in the year (inspired by Ginny...thanks for the enabling) and they will be planted in this bed as well.
Erynne
edited to add....there's also some cosmos in the bed , the pot on the left contains Dianthus that I started from seed and the pot on the right is Kyla's (my stepdaughter) Snapdragons that unfortunately got beat up by hail but are coming back.

Enabling? Me? LOL Any time - I'm happy to help :-)
Wow, look at all that space you have Erynne. My dream acreage....
Want some extra wintersowing plants? LOL....
Joanne
Holy cow, I hope you have one of those ride 'em tractors....that's a lot of grass....
Really nice what you've already done - I bet it can be overwhelming at times to plan it....
Yes, it is....come help me Joanne!!!!!!!!! aaaaahhh!
We got a John Deere ride on mower....too fun!
LOL, I am a poor garden planner, trust me. I buy one of everything and stuff them in where ever I can...makes for a somewhat chaotic garden space, but I like it. :)
I was showing my DH your pictures; he was salivating about the idea of zooming around on the John Deere...I'll send him over. ;)
LoL! You know it has to be fun when my 14 yr old is now begging to cut the lawn! And you know what's really funny? When one man starts up his ride on around here, all of the men start wandering out of their houses and cut their lawns too! Then, when their mowing causes them to venture near the road, they all bloomin' wave at each other!!! It's beyond comical!! I feel like I'm in the twilight zone!! The people who own houses on the other side of the road (about 12 owners) all have 2 acre lots so it takes them ages to mow. DH has actually asked me to make more garden beds so he has less to mow.
I'm like you in that I buy one of this or that and try to stick to perennials to get a little more long term use out of my investment. I know about that so-called "plant in groups of three" or odd numbers rule but no way I could afford to buy three of everything. I figure I'll get three of something if I divide or sow the seeds. I wonder how many people actually buy in threes anyway??? And one is an odd number sorta/kinda anyhow.....hmph!
Erynne :o)
