I have two standard bronze turkeys that are four months old. One has a protruding chest (I assume he is a gobbler) and he has plucked the feathers out of the breast area that is protruding. They appear to have been baby feathers that he pulled off, but I just want to make sure. His front area that is "protruding" is plucked of the down feathers. He doesn't pull feathers from anywhere else. Also is it normal for a turkey to have a chest that protrudes significantly? The other one doesn't have it.
Standard Bronze Turkey with bald spot on front chest
Does he strut? I don't know if they wear off the feathers in front or they get pushed out when they inflate their chest, but every tom I've had that is mature (or at least posr pubescent) has a bald chest.
Yes he struts. Very pretty bird at four months. Thanks for the feedback. Looks funny seeing him with no feathers on his chest.
