I want some berries on my blue muffin viburnum and need another diff varietty to get some cross pollenation going on, i'm not sure which variety. I guess I need to go find out.
I have tons to trade, dmail me and i'll send you my list of tradable plants.
Lots of tropicals and perennials.
My blue muffins are getting huge now and have bloomed, bu t not showing any signs of leaving behind berries . and they aren't worth having without thos e berries cause the flowers stink to high heavens LOL
CLOSED: Looking for a viburnum to cross pollenate blue muffin
did a little research...blue muffin is v.dentatum aka arrowood so you'll need another cultivar of arrowood planted close for polination...preferrably the species. One page did say,it self-polinated somewhat.
I have species v.dentatum if you'd like some cuttings.
P
Someone is rooting the one called cranberry for me, I haven't even had time to do any research on this, although I posted a while back in the shrub forum and got some good help on the subject. My blue muffins definitely didn't pollenate, there's no signs of future berries on them.
I'd love some cuttings off yours, do youwant anything in trade?
always....LOL...whatcha offering?
P
I just dmailed mittsy cause she's sending me cranberry, I wanted to find out if it was the v.dentatum variety if it is, I won't need any other.
I'll let you know ok Peg.
kathy
Kathy, I don't know of any dentatum cultivar with the name 'cranberry' in it. There is a virburnum known as american cranberry bush which is viburnum trilobum. This will definitely NOT pollinate any viburnum dentatum species or cultivars.
thanks Frahn
I'm still going to try her cranberry one, I have to go back to my dmails and look up that proper name.
Peg, I'm not sure what your looking for in exchange.
I have some hydrangias I could send cuttings off or the french pink pussy willow, hydrangias are lady in red, forever pink, limelight
I could send cuttings of this jap camelia but its' hard to root , I have a variegated hydrangia also I could send cuttings off the blue muffin viburnum
I'd trade for pink pussywillow or hydrangea Lady in Red....or both if I have anything else your looking for.
P
I can send you cuttings off both of them with no problem, I'll get them out today if your addy isn't in the exchange i'll need it, mines in there
Got you boxed up PEggy, sent some extras of the pink pussy willow and 3 lg of the lady in red.so maybe you can root and sell them at your market place.
I forgot to label I think, but It's plain to tell which is which
here is a site for v.dentatum Arrowwood Viburnum
http://www.thevillagegardencenter.com/Viburnum_2.htm.
I didn't know i needed to cross pollenate I just thought the few berries i got had something to do with the enviorment.
I've not gotten any signs of berries yet, but you do have to have another o f the same dentatum to get lots of berries. from what I was told
Hey. I bought a Blue Muffin 2 years ago specifically for the berrys. Last year it just grew a bit and had leaves. This year it grew a little more and had about 3 clusters of flowers and I was so happy. Then I went out there one day and all the blooms were gone! It looked like they were all plucked off one by one. Of course, they weren't. But I don't know what happened. The shrub, small as it is, look just fine.
I just decided it might have been too much for the little thing to maintain those blooms this year.
Not that I have room, but I'm looking for the Brandywine Viburnum too. If anyone has tips for super successful growing, let me know. ^_^
P.S. I'm in hot, humid 7b with clay soil.
That brandy wine is georgious . I hear it takes 3 years for the blue muffin to bloom flowers, and they all do fall off like they've been plucked, I've been watching to see if berries form on mine and nothing yet, mine are 3 years and were loaded with stinky flowers this year LOL I only bought mine for the berries too.
Just back in from market.
I have a funeral to attend tomorrow so it'll probably be Thurs. when I ship off the vib.cuttings.
I have had Winter Fire for about 5 yrs.Suppose to be self-polinating but from the passed years berry production,it doesn't do a very good job.....or the birds are getting them before I notice them.Would you like some cuttings of this one? I'll have to look it up to see which species it is.
I'm in the exchange.
P
would love cuttings of that one too.
You can wait till this monday to ship, if youneed to, no big deal to me. I have a ton to do this weekend, and no time to plant, so may be best for you to wait till next week.
your box is in the mail now,
thanks for the trade Peg.
I have some hibiscus to ship to another lady on Fri. so may as well get both down in one trip.
P
sounds fine
If I didn't live way out in the boonies,I'd wait until Mon. but I do and gas prices get scarier every day so I have to do as many errands as I can in a trip.
Seems like this week, run is all I do. I only had Mon. to get some more work to done in the nursery...market on Tues.,my friends funeral today,Thur...maybe I'll get to do some work around here,Fri. I HAVE to go buy some grub or we're going to be pealing wallpaper off the walls to chew on,Sat. market again...so on and so forth. No rest for the wicked.
The yard will be a hay field before long if I can't run my lawn man to ground and the house...well,you know how that goes during agrdening season.
P
Friday is good, I have to ship when I can too, cause I do live way out of town too.
no biggy.
I just found out I ordered a cardinal candy viburnum from another coop group, it says it's a dilatatum, wondering if that would cross? I don't think it will but not sure.
that other one I'm getting in another trade is the
Viburnum opulus.
