Have you heard of or seen the DG marketplace yet?
It's tab is right there on your home page beside Your Info.
If enough Canadians list plants and gardening stuff to sell we could probably talk Dave into creating a "Shop Canadian" category.
I know there are a lot of you out there that use e-bay, maybe consider giving the DG Marketplace a try!!
Attention all Canadians!!
threegardeners - I've moved my home page around a lot; so it's NOT on my homepage. Will look it up though.
ann
Ann, it has its own tab!!!
It is a tab right underneath Guides and Information...here is a shortcut for you though:
http://davesgarden.com/products/market/
It is under Products and Sources on my homepage
I found it! Was looking in the wrong spot.
My contribution :-) http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=5146086
I added my 2 cents:
"I bought a wonderful book and I check out the books and seeds every day. But like ginnylynn says its tough for us crazy Canucks to buy plants, bulbs, tubers etc with the PsychoCertificate issue (yup I did say Psycho). Even if the seller is prepared to go through the hassle, the extra expense for us plus shipping can make it cost prohibitive. "
dahlianut, I agree. I wish we could sort the marketplace so that we could look only at product in Canada.
Why don't you start a request thread growin? Just point us to it and we would fall right in behind it for you :-)

Posted! Come on everyone - let's support growin's request and see if we can make the Marketplace a fine place for Canadians to do business too!
WOW!!
You all are the best!!!
You all know, I assume, that Dave has made this change. We can now search the DG Marketplace by country :-)
No ginnylynn. Just checked it out now. WHOOO HOOO!!! THANKS DAVE!!!!!
Note now that you can search by country its a great opportunity for new or first time Canadian sellers to participate. There is a wonderful tutorial in the Sellers Area in Marketplace that walks you through it if you're a first time seller. I'll certainly be checking out the Canadian deals ^_^
Ohioan sneaking in to make a plea on behalf of Canadians everywhere. Sell something! Buy something! We need more Canadians in the Marketplace. LOL
I think I could take it in Vancouver but zones 3-5??? I tolerate zone 6! Going back to Ohio now. ;)
LOL You're only 1/2 a zone warmer than me! I moved from 6b 4 years ago and there really isn't that much difference.
I've been sneaking a peak here and there. Have my eye on a couple of things - might just have to buy in the next couple of days ;-)
Hi Ginny. I hope you are well!
I just had the strange desire to give threegardeners a rough time so I sneaked in here. :)
It's a shame we all have to deal with the phyto business.
Seriously, I can drive an hour North and be in zone 5 and an hour South and be in zone 7. LOL
I'm doing just fine. I can see you're enjoying life :-)
Yes, phyto requirements have sure put a crimp in North American gardeners' styles - at least those of us who really want live plant material. Even seed trading can be iffy at times, although I've been fairly lucky. None of the cross-border trades I've been involved in have been confiscated up to now.
LOL You know, sometimes I'd give my eye teeth to live in zone 8 or 9. Then I think about the things that I love that just don't grow well in a warmer climate...
...and I *STILL* think I'd love to be there :-) Brugs in the ground that return every year sounds like a fair trade to me!

We've experienced some turbulence but life is good! We are happy and healthy.
I asked my Ag guy about shipping to Canada and he said it's possible but tricky. I haven't really had many requests from "up there" so I didn't go much further. I told him it probably would not be worthwhile if people had to buy the phyto certs.
Oh, I'd be thrilled if I could leave ears, cannas, bannas, brugs, heliconias, etc in the ground! But I lived somewhere that warm, I think I'd have to give up a lot of my favorite bulbs and perennials. Sigh. Guess I'll stay put for now.
You'd probably find your favourite bulbs & perennials in the ground around here. My mini-blue Brug is growin' nice this year http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/1015/ with little Angels Trumpets and my Gardenia Kleim's Hardy is starting to bloom. The 6 months of rain can be a bit depressing though.
Hi Growin!
Get out! A mini blue brug??? This is the first year in a long time I'm not growing any brugs. I sure didn't know about this one!
Yeah, 6 months of rain would be hard to swallow. It seems to me, it's raining more and longer every spring! In a couple of months, we'll have no rain and whine about that. chuckle We've had really bizarre weather for the last couple of years.
I have an Acnistus australis too, one that I started from seed last year. Poor thing - I didn't care for it very well and it was just one spindly stem. Then I stuck it in my unheated garage for the winter and it died back to the roots.
There was a period of about a week in mid-March where the temperature in there was down to about 25 to 28 degrees fahrenheit and I figured it was toast. I treated it as though it was still alive at the root anyway and gradually kept trying to wake it up in the spring. It finally started sprouting again about 2 weeks ago :-)
That little guy has earned the royal treatment through sheer persistence in desire to live, and I'm going to faithfully give him the care he wants.
Thank you growin! Don't worry about "long overdue". I knew you were busy and you'd get around to it eventually :-) Have you ever seen a "round tuit"? Here's a link http://www.ozwood.com.au/prod210.htm
--Ginny
Oh, that's too funny. I could put it next to my "panick button".
"panick button"? Got a photo?
I remember my Mom having a tuit. That was many many years ago!
Now I have one of my own lol
Thx
- Susan -
Oh I do need one of those! Actually I have had a virtual one for many years - now I want the real thing!
