Who am I?

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

I've been thru my caterpillar book twice. I found this guy crawling up the post of my martin house. Thought I'd put him where there was food he would like, but I couldn't ID him, so I left him on a hollyhock that was nearby.

edit to add: oops, forgot my 'pleases and thank-yous'. sorry. I'm anxious to ID him. I have so many more b'flies this year than before I get kind of excited.

That looks like a Gypsy Moth cat:

Don't think that's one you want around:)

fly_girl, thanks so much for the ID. he was so cute, but I will hunt him down if I can and squash him like the bug he is LOL. And now I know so if I see any more they are toast. I read the list of host trees. We are just starting to get our trees to a decent size.

thanks again
