I'd love to take my Passi outside to the gazebo for a summer vacation and let it just go to town. If I let it crawl all over my gazebo I will have to cut it off to bring it back inside this fall. Will it hurt it?
I know I could tie up some strings for it to grow on and I might get it back in one piece but I thought that just cutting it to bring back in would help keep it in check for the winter?
Vacationing Passion Flower???
Just make sure you acclimate it to the outdoors slowly so that it does not get burned.
Well, It's a very happy camper outside in the Gazebo. I have blooms everywhere.
This poor baby has had a tuff life so far. I started 5 of them from seeds last spring and gave all of them away except this one. It spent most of last summer in the little pot I used to start it in. Even then in that small pot it produced a few blooms. Finally at the very end of summer it was re-potted and given something to climb on. Then it came down with a nasty case of spider mite and got knocked over and broke. It was then re-potted into an even larger pot, really too big for the poor little thing but it was what was at hand. It had settled in pretty well and was looking pretty good when I decided to try moving it outside. It certainly has adapted well and is just thriving out there.
That's awesome! Great job raising your "baby".
Cutting it back should not hurt it.I have cut them back to about 12 inches and they have come back with a vengence.
If it is not a cold tolerant variety your bigger concern will be getting it in before frost.
