incubating eggs, need help

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

I forgot to turn my guinea eggs last night so this could have happened yesterday morning , that was the last time I checked ont he eggs.

The incubator got unplugged and was down to 80 degrees, eggs were cold.

Are they goners? I'm so mad about this. If I had turned them lastnight, I would have noticed sooner, I have no idea if it happened inthe middle of the night, or yesterday or what.

Doesn't mom get off them once in a while, and they go down that low in temps?

I'm hoping their ok, I plugged it back in and we'll see.

I put them in the bator on the 8th of June

I bet they will be okay. I did almost the exact same thing, and I had a really successful guinea hatch. They are tough little birds.

Oh I'm thrilled to hear that, gives me such good hopes now.

Thanks somuch. Seems like bad luck has poured on me lately, Ithought this may be just another big boulder in the road LOL

once mine got unplugged, ahppend to be a cool night, got down in teh low 70s in the bator! i wa slibid too kathy! i left them closed for two days without candling [auto turner] and then when i checked them they were all looking fine. had one of my best hatches!

so now, every evening, whether i am candling or not, i take the cover off and set it back crosswise, letting the eggs cool 15-30 minutes...

i too have some guinea eggs, didn't think iw ould EVER find their nest... mine are due a week from tomorrow...

just smash those boulders with a big fist! ;-)

LOL, thanks Tamara, I don't have one of those turners I have to turn them myself, thnk it would be ok to leave them alone a couple days and not turnthem or should I turn them?

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

keep turning. just do it more quickly... so as not to let heat out. takes up to 24 hours to get the temp back right...

Stromberg recommends cooling the eggs for 15 minutes once a day to improve a hatch. I guess it mimics the hen getting off the nest to eat. I just figured it happened when I candled--which I did obsessively every day after day 7.

Great then, I have't even candled yet cause Ididn't wan to leave the lid off that long, there are 3 dozen eggs in there minus two that were cracked. YUK!

Thanks Kathy for posting this. I am new to incubating too and just learned a whole lot more about it. I thank you all for the great info too!......and some peace of mind.....I too am hand turning and have been very worried about how long the top was off.
