I pulled 87 gazillion of these from my front beds today. After the 2nd gazillion or so, I started wondering what they were, so when I was calling it names under my breath, at least some of them would be the correct name... So tonight I was wandering through some threads trying to figure it out, and Spurge is the closest thing I could find. Is that right?
Is this nuisance Spurge?
I am not totally sure, but i think you are right.
Thanks, Josephine! It looks kinda like htop's picture here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=1750658 but the buds/seed pods on my little pest are under the leaves instead of on top of them. I didn't know if that ruled it out or not.
Marilyn....those things are growing rampant in my yard too! I'm really glad you posted this.
Common names can be confusing. When people in my area talk about spurge, they mean this plant: Chamaesyce maculata. It hugs the ground and has lots of little branches that all come from one central point where the root is. There is only one main root. When you break off a stem, a milky sap appears. They are easy to pull up once you find the central point.
I've seen the plant you've described and named all my life, but never knew it went by the name "spurge" also.
I think what you have is some type of Horse Nettle, Boehmeria cylindrica check this picture

Josephine.
That's exactly it, Josephine! Thank you! I agree with all of vossner's comments on that page! LOL
This is all over my yard. I have a few choice names for it also.
Marylyn did you notice after Rita went through there are so many more different weeds than we have ever had? I really thought we had enough all ready. But what do I know? haha
Blessings,
Sandy ^8^
Hi, Sandy! We just barely got a quarter inch of rain from Rita, so we didn't inherit her weeds either. I'm sorry you did!!!
Well I guess I got both of our shares of weeds.... ;o)
