Must be a light NH then. I wondered cause almost all the BO's look like hens with a couple of exceptions. Yours is a rooster right?

adorwble photos. love the Quackers!
" We're going to enlarge it a bit soon." don't we all say this all the time?

except fo rthe lack of feathered feet, he looks like a Brahma. must be a Delaware!

Yes Mollly the picture is of a roo. He now has an even bigger comb. The hens have very small combs and the combs are lighter, not so red. Here is a more recent photo of him.

oh Molly, I think Herc is Beautiful... or is that handsome?

Your NH looks like my RIR..
And I can't tell the difference between my BO and my chancalers (spelled wrong) should I be able to?

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

i guess you mean the pullets? i can't recall, but think the body type should be a lot different between the two, fran

Chantecler have very small "cushion" combs. BO have nice single combs--eventually it should be obvious:0)

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

coudl not have said that briefer myself LOL

nor would we want you to.

Sorry Molly.. now tell us a picture story...
We don't hear much about the NH.. how is she? friendly? Boring? a character?

Columbia, TN(Zone 7b)

Sorry guys I've been offline since Friday morning. I'm only stopping here on this thread for today cause I'm up to my eyeballs in work here.

frans530 the New Hampshires aren't boring but they seem way more aloof than the Buffs or Hercules. Occasionally one of them will jump in my lap but it's on their terms and they don't seem to like me to touch. Also I haven't made a big effort to be friends with them because more of them seem to be roos and you know their destiny. Once I can focus on the hens things with them may change. The Buff's on the other hand seem to be mainly girls. One of them has become a special pet. I call her Sweetie and she loves to cuddle. Since I nurse several of the Buffs they know me and aren't afraid of me. They'll sqwack (spelling?) them I have to pick them up but it's a show. They settle right in to being held. Hercule doesn't care for me to pick him up. Spoils his dignity as a roo LOL. Hercule and one of the NH are the two males I have my eye on to keep. Of the fake Delawares two are males but one is an iffy female. Court is still out on that one. They almost seem like non-entities.

Hi Molly, I just saw the 'baby' pic's of Hercule not too long ago and I can't believe how big he has gotten. He sure is a handsome fella! : )

Molly, I just held my Delaware, Delphine, for closer inspection (Myrhh was drawing blood for a test) and I noticed that some of the feathers next to the dark barred ones on her neck are a very light buff or gold color. It is so faint that next to the black barring it is not noticeable. But if that were all there were she might look like your "fake Delawares". I wonder if you just got some off-types--maybe you could develop them as a new color? Golden Delawares--sounds good.

Columbia, TN(Zone 7b)

Christy I told Hercule that you thought he was handsome and I do believe I saw him blushing! LOL

Catscan in person the color is really dull. The name sounds awesome though! If you don't look closely they look like white leghorns till you spot that champagne color on their heads and necks. Hercule lacks any of that color. He's got shades of gray though as well as the black and white. His comb and wattles really stand out now.

Champagne Delawares!

We once had a wonderful German Shepherd Dog, Gretchen, who was all tan--no saddle, just dark face and tips of tail. Everyone asked what she was, so we said "Golden Alsatian" Suddenly they were very impressed. You gotta go with your strengths;0)

Ain't that the truth Catscan?!
