When to sow seeds

Gainesville, FL(Zone 9a)

Its time to get going on getting all my seeds together for fall planting in the veggie garden. This will be my first year trying to start my own herbs. Are they best started in the fall and wintered over, so the plant is raring to go in the spring? I have always just bought whatever few herbs I grew, but I have so many I want to try, figured the seeds would be the way to go. I realize some herbs can only be taken from cuttings.

Gardenglory? It seems that even though you live cross-country from me, we live in the same planting zone. Herbs differ in their planting times, and then, there are some that you can plant multiple times, per year. So the best idea would be to go to one of the online Herb seed sites that offer information on the herb you wish to plant, and see if they offer info on planting times. www.horizonherbs.com has a catalogue that gives this info, and they may have it on their online website too. Or, you could list the herb seeds you plan on planting, and those of us herbies that are in your planting zone, could give you the planting times for them
