CLOSED: HAVE: nankin cherry

Madison, WI

I have one too many nankin cherries. It's a 2' hight bushy looking plant right now. It overwintered here in WI.
Now that it started to pick up growth, I realize it's not going to have room where I planted it.
Will trade for a box of low growing sedums or an exotic (hardy to my zone!) shade lover I do not have.

Does it produce cherries? or just a flowering bush, i'mnot familiar with any of them.

I don't have alot of low growing sedums, have tons of tall sedums and lots of exotics, but getting them to be hardy in your area, we may just have to work on that Not sure.

Nankin cherries do produce cherries, but they are not as large and not as sweet.
This one is not bearing any yet - too young.

What tall sedums do you have? I do have Black jack, matrona, autumn joy, medio-variegatum.
I am not planting another exhotic not hardy enough, lost too many so beginning to hid zone markers :)

I've got a thead in the plant trading forum with my sedums on it,

But I think i'd want to pass on this since i'd want a sweet tasting cherry that you'd be able to eat right off the tree LOL or bush.

Got any of those?

Helping out here: Nanking cherries also need another Nanking as a pollinator to produce fruit. My Nankings are sweeter than a pie cherry but not as sweet as a sweet cherry. I do eat them right off of the bush. Nankings are very pretty in the spring, one of the first fruit tree to bloom and completely covered with blossoms. I'd do a trade for one in a minute if I did not already have them.

So I need two nankings? or another l ike a rainier cherry?

I'm trying to trade for a rainier cherry too.

Enya,

here's a few of my sedums

cloudwalker
garnet brocade
pink chablis
purple emperor
matrona
mediovariagata
autumn fire
I also have brilliant
sheila mcqueen

maybe one or two others listed on that other page

neon and stardust but lost tags on these two and have to wait for blooms to tell them apart.

Enya, I've heard that some Nankings may be partially self fertile, but two is the recommendation. Off hand I do not know what all of the cherries types will pollinate them, but doubt Rainier will as they are different species. Still, a Nanking in the hand...

Did a recent trade with the member who is offering Ranier and loved the quality of the plants. Don't have space for a Ranier or I would be in there bidding too!

How big are our nankings enya? maybe I could find something to trade for two of them then, I"d want them to pollenate for sure. I'llw ait to hear from you on this

My cherry is in it's 3d year, but is only about 2+ feet tall. It's been in total shade since the previous year so not much growth there. It's on a bushy side too. I'll try to take a picture tonight if the camera cooperate. The other ones in the batch I got have been in half-shade and are 5' now. They all came as 1 1/2 ' seedlings.

I got mine after I saw one in the neighbourhood. It was covered with berries and I did try a couple. The berries are closer to the stem than on regular cherries so it looked literary covered with fruit.

I'd like it to get a better home for this tree as soon as possible. It's getting late for tree transplanting. Just got an invite to the city wide garden group for plant sharing, so I do have a fall back plan now that more people grow edibles in Madison :) I really hate to see good plants suffer.
