Tap light in pot?

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

Last spring Lowes 'garden club' magazine (free) featured a great project. Requires 2 planters, 1 about 4-5 gallons and the other about 1/2. Fill the bottom of the larger planter with planting soil and set the smaller planter on top. Now the top rims of the two planters are almost the same level w/ smaller one a bit lower. fill space between planters w/ more potting soil. You now have a space of 4" or so between the two planters where you plant something, suggested an upright plant like cast-iron plant. Into the smaller empty planter place a tap light. Press the light to turn on and off. Keep out of rain and weather. So you put it out in your garden/patio when needed. I have this on my list of things to do.

I saw that project too in one of the magazines they send. Good luck : )

I made a couple of these. I used bird of paradise in a hugh pot. The only problem I have with it is keeping the light dry. No matter how careful we are the light seems to get wet and quit working. It looks really cool when it is work though. I also made a smaller one with caladiums. I'll try and post pictures when I get home.
Good luck with yours.

Maybe I will put the light in only when going to use it.

Would it work in a zip-lock bag?

I was thinking of using a small tap light and keep it in a short wide jar and remove lid when using.

The bag and the jar are good ideas. I'll have to try that. I was trying to figure out a way to use a solar light.

I would love to see pictures, can some of you post pictures? Does anyone remember the name of the project? I'd like to see if I can find it online.

will the tap light fit in a round bowl shaped plastic food container? such as a gladware or a ziploc? put it in your pot lid side down and it will shine through the clear plastic and stay dry. This is a cool sounding idea!

ziploc bag? take the light out when you are done using it and open the bag to make sure there is no condensation?
