The previous owners cut down a fruit tree to put a fence up. Every year the stump would grow sprouts near it and I would cut them off. Two summers ago I decided to let one of the sprouts grow, it is now about 7 feet tall and healthy looking. I'm wondering if this new tree will produce fruit eventually? I'am pretty sure it is an apple tree. It looks like one. Thanks DM
New fruit tree growing from stump
I'm sure it it will in time. I'd think that it will act about like a seedling would. Since it's coming from the roots what kind, how long it will take and how big it will get are all unknowns.
If it's an apple tree, chances are it will need a pollinator to produce fruit.
Thanks for the responses.
I do have 3 other apple trees. I did not see any blossoms this year on the stump tree. I'll wait till next year and see if it gets any.
