Momduck was hatching out babies yesterday and it was cold and rainy. She has a bum leg due to an idiot friend who thinks everyone should enjoy his dog when he visits. (no longer much of a friend) Anyway, with her bad leg, she ended up kicking out some of the hatching eggs and one little guy got left out in the rain as he hatched. I found him and thought he was dead, but as I was putting him in a body bag, I saw his foot move. I brought him in the house and put him in a dryer-warmed towel with a heating pad underneath. Believe it or not, he perked up within a couple of hours. It was still cold and rainy so I decided to give him 24 hours in the wamth. This is what I made. It worked perfectly. He never even left his little tent till I took him out this morning. Now he is out with his 3 siblings and happy as can be.
My artificial Duck
Oh the poor little thing. Thank goodness his little foot moved when it did! That was a brilliant idea jyl! I'll have to tuck that idea away for later, in case I ever need to do it. : )
Ahwwww!
Good thinking. How very lucky for him you found him when you did. : )
aaawwwwwww..it is a cutie!!! glad he got you for a sub duckmommy!!
lucky you! and lucky ducky too...
What a wonderful life-saving effort. Well done. The duckling is utterly gorgeous. How's mumma duck's leg?
jylgaskin I will never understand people who bring their dogs when they visit! They do that to us too. I get so mad. We've got two dogs and we do not inflict them on anyone!! They stay here where they belong.
Now with all the animals I really dread some idiot bringing a dog to 'see' the goats and chickens. I know I am NOT going to be the welcoming hostess.
Glad you spotted the little fellow when you did.

What an adorable little duck. So glad you found him.
How's he going jylgaskin?
Jyl, we had that problem with our seasonal neighbor across the road. They put on endurance horse rides, and 3yrs ago, they allowed their guests to have their dogs loose. One of them came visiting. I told him that if I caught another one of them over here I was going to shoot it as I have livestock and will not tolerate "strays" on my property. He promptly put a leash law sign up and except for his dog, we haven't had any more trouble. He's lucky that when his dog came visiting we were at another neighbor's house and although I knew the dog was here (he thought it was lost) I couldn't do anything about it. It was at night so the chicks were locked up or the dog would have been dogmeat!!

The duck is out with the rest of them now.
