WEird things going on with my redbone

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

I've got an 8 year old House dog Redbone coonhound, he's about 80 pounds, always been on heart worm preventative and most times always on flea and tick advantage, I had skipped a couple week s on the advantage cause we were out, and we got an invasion of fleas, we now have him back on the advantage and the fleas are dying off. I'm just trying to tell you all a litttle history of my dog before I tell the problem

a year ago he got hit by a truck on the road, he lived through it, after spending the night in the vets office. survived internal bleeding which they didn't do anything about. He's healed himself from that. He's blind in his right eye becuase that was the initial blow, and we think he's lost some hearing in his right ear also. other than those things. He's a happy , FULL of energy dog.

And one more thing, he's had all his vacinations as a pup and yearly vacinations but for the last couple years I've neglected in the yearly vacinations.

I have talked to the vet also, and he said, he'd have to run a battery of tests to rule out things such as heartworms, distemper, tick borne diseases etc...

DH said, we're not taking him in for tests on things we know he doesn't have. such as heartworms, and distemper etc...

it's a hit and miss with the local vet, there's a fat chance we'll bring out dog in and he'll diagnose without running all those other tests first.

Here's the problem.

The other day. This came on all of a sudden also, Itook Dude (dog's name) outside, and I heard him yelp like I hurt him, but didn't touch him, then he did it again, and when he was outside he did it again. WE didn't know what was going on, so we jsut watched him closely. DH took him out later yesterday evening, and he just fell to the ground, like He was totally worn out, and just laid there, scared me to death. I tried to help him up and he yelped and yelped, Now, today, he's doing better, he 's back to barking and he's back to running around again. But the problem, he's not eating anything but his dog treats and if we give him table food he'll eat that, he won't eat his dog food, (I think he thinks he's getting special treatment and is going for the good stuff) , or else he'd probably eat the dry food.

HE can't turn his head to the right side at all, I mean no turning at all. When he tries, his head jiggles kind of like a person does when they have parkensons disease, how their hands shake, you know what I mean. and He cocks his eyes while he's trying to turn his head to the right. like (I can see you but I can't turn my head ) Poor thing, I have no idea what's going on. He's no longer feeling bad, the first day , 2days ago, he felt terrible, whining, and laying around, I knew he was sick. The only thing left now of his "ordeal" is the fact that he can't turn his head to the right at all.

Being the fact that he's blind in his right eye, No guys, I"m sorry, he's blind in his left eye, and can't turn to the right, this limits his sight intake drastically, I think that all the wobbliness he's had is because of his sight loss because he's limited on how far to turn his head and can't view anything when he turns his head to the left cause of his blindness in that eye.

Like I said, He's completely back to normal with the attitude , I think I can get a grip on the food intake, cause I can pour gravy on his dry food and he'll gobble it up.

No blood in the stool or diarhea at all . he's not constipated. He knows something's wrong with him though, he's smart, and he's always got his head in my lap, cause he's too big to put anything else there LOL.

He's my baby, and i'd take him to the vet in a minute if DH would let me, He loves him too, but he doesn't think the vet will do much other than charge us a fortune, since we've already talked to him twice.

Although , I haven't told the vet now that the only problem left is the fact that he can't move his head to the right. Gosh, does he have just one great big crick in his neck or what is going on with him. and, Dh also thinks it might be something to do with the accident he had last year, but now? after a year?

Don't get me wrong, we love our dog, both of us do, I think DH is thinking that it won't get us anywhere if we take him to the vet. cause he's a healthy dog, and we've done all the right things with him, except let him get hit by a truck last year.

Don't think cruel of us cause we haven't taken himto the vet yet.

I'm thinking now that it's time, although he's better except for the neck m ovement.

Does anybody have any clues? has this ever happened to you?

He has all other movements just fine. leg, tail, etc... he barks, although only when he has to. and yes, actually he use to shake his head drastically like alot of dogs do, he still does that too. That's got to hurt though since he has limited neck movement to the right.

I think i'm going to call the vet back and tell them what's going on now.

here's Dude

yes, he's always got those sad puppy dog eyes too, even when he's jumpin up and down
