What is the best mail order Brug nursery?

Portland, OR

I am wanting to buy some larger sized plants, hopefully some that could flower this year. Does anyone know a good mail order nursery that sells plants larger than small cuttings? Shipping expense is not a big concern.

My personal favorite is Seed Sprout.

Navarre, FL(Zone 8b)

I bought a Brug from this place and it was 2 or 3 feet tall. It has grown really well since early spring and still looks great.

It is really tough to ship large plants as they get beat up pretty bad.
Last summer our local Wallmart had some, which I was very suprised about.
Ya feel like driving south, I could fix you up with some larger plants.

My favorite is http://shop.seedsprout.com/main.sc also.. plants arrive in perfect shape and sometimes have buds!!

Here is a pic of Maya just out of the packing tube.

I just unpacked my order from Seed Sprout. I expected, and hoped, I would get really good plants, but what arrived was even better than the high end of what I was wishing for.

Plus, I don't know how long it will last, but she's offering 25% off orders over $50 now on her website.

I'm a REALLY happy customer.

shushinggrasses, I wish you hadn't said that! I still have a want list on Brugs Brenda sells. The only thing that will save my pocketbook is that I'm going to the SF Bay Area toward the end of the month for my DS' birthday and won't be around to pick up the package. A few days after I get back, my DH and I are flying to Denver to pick up a new Jeep Patriot he is buying — the nearest dealer with one that has the options he wants. It's time for his 10 year old car to retire. Poor thing has hit 3 deer and was declared "totaled" after DH hit the second one. We plan on turning the trip back into a mini-vacation. Haven't had one in a number of years. I'll have to get a neighbor to pet sit our two indoor kitties and outdoor pooch. The cows will be on their own. :-)

bettydee, your story is interesting, but all I immediately extract from it is, your DH is getting a new Jeep Patriot with the options he wants, and to balance that, you should be getting to spend WAY less than that on some great Brugs from Brenda. See how I focus?

I didn't mention, my Seed Sprout plants were mostly in the 2' to 3' trunk length size, several had buds, one had 4 buds or flowers. Go shopping! Maybe Brenda would hold your order for you to ship after your mini-vacation?

La Grange, TX(Zone 8b)

What an enabler you are! LOL. What I didn't nmention before was that the want list was longer, a lot longer, in May than it is now. Saying that I'm just replacing what I lost last summer will only work for so long.

Do I get to do the "I told ya so" dance with Betty?? LOL

Congrats on your new babiez Sushi... We will be waiting patiently for pics.. :)

Wow Betty.. You will only be about an hour away from me!

Yes, and don't think I haven't though of that. LOL

I am a newbie, but, I recommend Almost Eden.. Good service and this is the plant straight out of the shipping box. If you are wanting something bigger, I am sure they could get it to you.

I have bought MANY brugmansias in the years that i have been collecting and I have to agree that both Seedsprout and Country Garden are excellent choices for top notch, healthy plants. 3 and 4 years later many of my best bloomers can be traced back to either one of these nurseries.
Remember to always buy from someone you know or someone that is recommended. There are way too many unscrupulous vendors out there (especially on the auction sites) that are ready and willing to take your money, only to supply you with the wrong item or something so small the stress of the shipping eventually kills it.
There is nothing more frustrating than waiting a year for something to bloom only to find out that it is a NOID brug of inferior quality.

I think it's better to buy two or three NAMED and rare Brugmansias, grow them out, and trade with others here on DG. T

The folks here are so generous and have such beautiful plants - it's been a pleasure to trade with them, although I haven't done it in a long while.

I have a wonderful friend (you know who you are!) who has given me a number of nice and desirable cuttings, and I am so thankful for her kindness!

There is also the Marketplace you can check. Gordo ships out really nice brugs!

Milton, FL(Zone 8a)

I agree that Gordo ships superior plants.I buy some from her myself.Just got a 'Perfect Harmony' last week.Very nice plant. ;>)

You can't go wrong with Seedsprout, country Garden or Gordo. My first ones came from country Garden, still love them and it has been A few years. I have visted Both Gordo and Seedsprouts gardens, they are wonderful. I have never delt with Almost Eden so I can't report on them. Not to imply they are bad, just have never had the pleasure of buying from them.

Fort Lauderdale, FL(Zone 10b)

Forgot about Gordo. Another superior nursery where you get more than your moneys worth!!

There's also http://www.karcheskycanna.com/ Ms. Alice too sells on eBay under Beloved1****
You can't go wrong with those recommended but I have yet to try Almost Eden.

Many of the growers from the named Brug sources know each other and have similar views regarding treatment of customers and readily share both information about new cultivars and the plants themselves. We also buy plants from one another in an effort to help sustain and maintain our fellow growers and hybridizers.
As a Brugmansia grower, I've found many from the retail community to be just as friendly and helpful as the many Brug lovers I've met elsewhere. We're customers too, so we know the best route is a truthful one. Our photos are accurate, our descriptions of plants as detailed as possible, and we're always available to help with both pre and post sale questions.
On a personal note, I'd like to thank those who recommended me.
Further, a few of the mentioned growers also had a hand in helping Dave start Dave's Garden Market Place and have some of their plants listed right here on site. Stroll on over and have a gander at the goodies!

Thanks, Jaye.
I have been warned several times to not mention myself here so I don't do it and therefore always excluded.
I won't say more to not be in trouble again ..lol

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

I have been very happy with all brug sellers that also happened to be DGers too.

That includes you too, Ms. Alice. All those I've purchased from you are healthy and growing like wild weeds now, even the ones with "European" ancestry, especially in this heat!!
Besides quality plants, your packaging is also one of the best. None came damaged.

Thank you from VA as well..always good to hear feedback from other DGers - I sometimes forget to peek at watchdog... ^_^

I had a bad experience with her buying from me when we first started out.
When I made a mistake and put a wrong plant in her box while trying to ship during a bad thunderstorm. I realized my mistake right after and sent her the wayward plant.
A few weeks later, she accused me of never sending it. I told her I did, but would send it again.
But she wrote back and said her husband had planted it and she missed they had received it. She never did make amends, so I have never had good feelings for her. And I have not had contact with her since.

BUT I am glad to see she has so many positive reviews now :-)))
So I guess it is true people can change!!

I bought an American Pride rooted brug from eddiedewayne on e-bay. I got an 18 in., very healthy plant. It also has five leafy shoots coming up from the soil. I ordered on Sun. and got it on Thurs. Very happy with him.
