Your story is so funny! Boy have you gone crazy! But birdwatching is indeed habit forming and turns into an obsession before most of us realize it!
I can just imagine, if you owned your own piece of land, what it would look like...a bird paradise!
So glad your landlady was so understanding

Piedmont, AL(Zone 7b)

well crazybirdlady.....and if you don't mind for the purposes of this thread I'm going to become "crazybirdman", I do have my own piece of land now...Take a look, I got the same bird feeding stations more or less now, more plants for sure, and a few more feeders maybe but I change them out now and again.....I'd like to think what I got is a bird paradise, but whatever it is, I got all kinds of birds and they sing to me everymorning.....I'm so fortunate, and I know you are too and know exactly what I mean.....Hope you enjoy these pictures and I hope to hear from you again, nice meeting you crazybirdlady

All I can say is WOW! What a beautiful flower garden! No wonder the birds love your place. Great pics...especially of those two "Wildest" ones! LOL

Dover AFB, DE(Zone 7a)

Great story! Neat how you told the land lord "just one" and truly gave them a lush bird garden. I bet they miss you.

LOL!! Ain't it the truth!!!

We were sitting out back the other night and DH commented on how we so many more birds this summer over last year, our first summer here. I reminded him that last year we we had 1 tube feeder, 1 suet feeder ansd 1 Thistle sock. Plus a couple pans I put on the ground. For the hummers I had 2 feeders.

This year we have a 2 tray feeders, Dinnerbell, platform, 2 suet feeders, 2 ground dishes and 1 finch feeder. Then we have the buffet table with water, grape jelly and grapes. An Oriole neactar feeder, plus 3 Hummingbird feeders(with a couple spares tucked away ..just in case!)

I just bought 8 suets yesterday an 18lbs. bag of no waste, 12 lbs. of BOSS, 10lbs. Finch mix. On hand, I still had some safflower and peanut pieces and 2 suets.

Wonder if I have enough......

Wilmar, AR(Zone 8a)

Wow, nanny!! I think that'll do it! LOL! How long will that last ya?! THis time of year I don't put out nearly as much as all that but in the winter I do.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

This is what I buy more or less every 2 weeks! It varies a little according to what's on sale or if I think they might like to try something different!

I'm buying my suet by the case (12 packs) since its going so fast this time of year.

I have 4 suet feeders in the tree containing hot pepper suet (no melt) and 2 more suet on the pole system. I've already gone through 4 cases this spring.

The seed in the platform feeder goes much faster since the Grackles and Jays can access that easier. I'm sure you see that nanny. :-)

Yes Paul I did read the story.

crazybirdlady....its so funny and I know you know what I mean, but the birds and squirrels they don't even fly away or scatter when I walk by anymore.....and the robins they see my coming with a sack in my hand they bounce around me till I scatter the grapes on to the ground feeder.....its nice when you feel they know you ain't going to harm them, not just that they want the food the give'em but that they just know you ain't going to bother'em......I like that about as much as anything.....and so glad you enjoyed the photos....even of the 'wildest'.....:)

I ain't even going to tell you folks how much bird seed I used to use when I lived in that one room apartment cause you wouldn't believe me if I told ya, so I ain't going to waste my time typing out the amount.......:)

I used to get something called Clean Mix from an old timey seed and feed store in Lawrenceville, Ga......I bought it in 50lb bags about 3 or 4 at a time....and it was hulled sunflower seeds, peanuts parts and a tad of thistle feed......a no waste kind..... I bought one 50lb bag of black oilers for my ground feeders.....the man back then gave me a good price cause I bought so much I used around 200 lbs a month sometimes more....sometimes though I hardly used 100lbs, it depended on the traffic of birds and the weather...... and back then I used to make my own suet, lord I bought me a big soup pot to make it in.....peanut butter, corn meal, oat meal, flour, raisins and lard and whatever kinda little tidbits I could steal or sneak by Linda into the pot from the cupboard.........:)
se
His name was Mr. Cooper the guy who owned it, they have a web site or used to Coopers Feed and Seed....sold bird houses and feeders of all kinds.....He was a nice fellow.....

I do probably go through more since I do have the open feeders. :)

My goal was to accomodate as many birds as possible, I guess I won't complain too much pelle! But I will be glad when the grackles leave.

I really should just buy the suet by the case...easier in the long run for sure!

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Paul, nice to run into you again on this site. Your pictures are really good and informative, too. You know already that I've read everything you and Linda have written that I can find. Your words make wonderful pictures all by themselves. Anyone can see in their minds eye what you are talking about. To you who haven't read Paul stories be sure and look them up and I think you will agree w/me.
