Guys...sorry if this question sounds silly for the more experienced ones! Are all philodendrons climbers or does it have to be certain species? I want some to climb up my palm trees but I am not exactly sure which type (s) I should be looking for? It seems to me that some varieties are only the trailing kind (for example the ones widely used indoors)?
Thanks for any clarification!

Philodendron question!
Wow! I had never thought of it this way! So how do you attach the trailing types to the trunks?
Tie your plant to the trees, it'll attach itself to the trees after awhile.
You can tie them, but you don't even do that. The "trailing kind" is commonly called philodendron, but is actually an epipremnum. The interesting thing to me about that plant is that once it forms the clinging roots that allow it to attach to the tree, the leaves get super huge. When it is a "houseplant" in a hanging basket, it keeps those cute little leaves and trails down out of the basket. Not all philodendron climb, but most do- like the one on the tree to the right in my picture. I take pieces of that plant and just throw it on the ground at the base of another tree where I want it to climb. I love this look!
Flora, that's fabulous! I had no idea! I personally don't like the look when they trail, maybe it's because that kind is everywhere in my office, heheheh...but I do think that climbing trees and especially palms, they look amazing! I love yours!
Back in my interiorscape days, I used to be that "plant lady" that came around to everyone's office and watered the pothos. There was always that one person in the building that didn't want their pothos trimmed and wound them the whole way around the cubicle walls.
LOL!
Be careful. We started doing that here....and the philos got to the tops of the trees in a hurry and broke them they were so top heavy....currently killing philos right and left!!!
WHAT WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What kinds do you have! Jerry
Do you guys think Marantas would start climbing too if attached? i bought a very healthy clump this weekend and already divided it!
TexasBL...will take pictures....pretty common around here.... Am keeping the monstera from growing up trees too.....
