First release of the year

Chicago Suburbs, IL(Zone 5b)

We woke up to find one of the painted ladies had eclosed overnight. We couldn't find her (or him?) anywhere and thought one of the dogs had eaten her, luckily we found her unharmed in a window. We observed her for a few minutes, took some pictures, and then released her outside and watched her fly away. I always see the painted ladies flitting around but have never been able to see one up close and still, they are quite beautiful.
