I posted this on our FL forum and it was suggested I post here to see if anyone knows or has had this problem before.
6/15
When we arrived home I looked out the window and one of the brugs looked as though it had been decorated as it had streamer type things all over it . On a closer look these strings are living . I did get a couple of pictures but haven't taken them off the camera yet. But it was yukky. Anyway said brug was dragged off the pool deck by DH and banished to the great outdoors.Later it had blown over and I said it can stay there until tommorow and then hopefully all those things will have either washed off in the rain or have taken a hike!!
6/16 It was wierd, I mentioned in the last thread about the living streamers on that brug and how we banished it outside the pool cage and when I looked at it last night it was almost leafless, the leaves had dropped and were all browned and floppy. Have taken a couple of pictures in case anyone knows what caused the roblem. It looked great one day and then poof within 24 hours :(
My camera wouldn't pick out the little bugs that made up the streamers but here is the first pic, following pictures show the leaves and Jax suggested that maybe the sun and nothing to do with the bugs. That is probably right as although they are in the same sun area the pool screen may have protected the leaves before.
spider invasion?
spider mites?
Looks like Spider Mites to me :(
Thank you both, I have never seen them on the streamers before though , just like long heaving wriggling garlands . Yuk
Did the Brug go from mostly shade to full hot sun? It looks more like sun burn because the unaffected areas of the leaf are still green and healthy looking. Leaves with spidermites start to look spotty and yellowish. Then the leaf becomes completely yellow. Not completely dry and brown. There are usually webs on the underside of the leaves. If you use a magnifying glass, you will see the mites crawling around.
the spiders actually lok like spider babies. i have nest break every year and they make streamers to launch from and you also see them on the plant in hundreds early in the morning.
i agree that doesnt look like mite damage to me either.
Thanks bettydee and imzadi.
Imazadi I think that is what it must have been.
The leave damage was probably because I moved it straight into the sun when the spiders were all over it
