Please help me identify/locate an old timey cockscomb I want

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Years ago, an elderly lady gave me some cockscomb that didn't survive. They were tall and grew back yearly at her home, HER mother had given them to her so the variety must be over 30 years old. They were a very old variety, VERY hardy, and the most divine color of deep, dark, rich, royal purple you've ever seen. True solid purple with strong, full heads, no fluffy feathery stuff, just "brain like" flower heads. I have scoured the internet and just cannot find this species, I guess because it's an older one. She just called it cockscomb. I can find nothing to match it in web searches. I'd give anything to find some again. Thanks in advance!

Karen, I've saved seeds from these. I can bring you some seeds to the RU. The picture looks red, but they are closer to a magenta/purple. I'm not sure if it what you are looking for, but maybe they can hold you over until you find what your looking for.
