We lost our colony this year; they didn't return. But late in the season a new couple settled in, and five babies are being fed. The problem is, Mama is MIA. We found a newly deceased martin on the golf course just behind us yesterday, and we think that was probably her. Papa is working his behind off, but there is no help to feed, or guard, the youngsters who are now sitting outside their cubicles, on the porch. Does anyone know of any way to help this guy out? We have mealworms for the bluebirds, but Papa catches his food on the fly.
Purple Martin feeding problem
Not much you can do, probably. If the young are close to fledging (sounds like it from "sitting outside their cubicles"), they'll likely be OK.

I sure hope you're right. I worry about them, and poor Papa too. I didn't think there was a positive answer for this one, but thought I'd give it a try anyway.....
