Black Cohosh Flower odor....

Central Valley, CA(Zone 9b)

Does anyone else have black cohosh in bloom at the moment? I rec'd a plant from crimson sage nursury, and it's bloom is lovely to look at, but I most definitely do not like the scent of it! It's almost as bad as one of my valerians, (the other smelled sweet), but the scent is foreign from anything I've ever smelled before, almost like the fumes plastics give off...but different. Fortunately, I'm growing it for it's root, and not it's flowers!

Cyra, the nickname for black cohosh is "bug bane". Yup, even bugs hate the smell. The blooms do LOOK cool anyway!

TY, HB....(and as far as I'm concerned, they might as well name it "Cyra-bane") I wish it smelled as lovely as it looks. I don't know any professional growers, but I'd sure wouldn't wish to live near a field of it!

Hee hee, Cyrabane. That's how I feel about Epazote. What the heck? Smells like turpentine to me.
