Brunfelsia americana & Brunfelsia Nitida Clarify please

So the question is - are these different Brunfelsias or one in the same?

Wouldn't have a clue Chantell but they look gorgeous...are they as poisonous as the other Brun's?

As far as I know they're different species that just look fairly similar. Top Tropicals mentions that B. nitida has a little more compact growth than B. americana http://toptropicals.com/catalog/uid/BRUNFELSIA_NITIDA.htm I haven't found any references that list them as synonyms of each other, and several places that list them as different species, so I'd really be inclined to say they're different plants, but look-wise they're probably similar enough that the average home gardener would be perfectly happy with either one.

astcgirl--can't think of any reason why their toxicity would be different from others in the genus.

Great!! That's what I was hoping - going to plant the seeds in separate pots - take advantage of our heat while we have it for seed germination.
