Wow! Sure is growing really fast there, you'll have lots of pups before you know it. It looks great, thanks for posting a picture, nice to see them grow up. They have the coolest looking veins. One of the older jeoquinii lineatum's I have is blooming now, I'm at the beach so no access to pictures but I will try to post some when I get back. Thanks, Paul!

ok hows your plant doing? Paul

You're gonna love that one!

Tropicanna.......I transplanted mine this past spring and there were no tubers or bulbs or anything! Just roots, is that normal? Does it need something in order to produce the big root? It grows great but I will feel more comfortable if it had more than just roots :(

Hey Paul, It had just unrolled a new leaf when I was leaving, I'll get pictures when I get home. I put a couple of runners in water also, hopefully they'll have some roots when i get back :)

azreno, I don't know how long you've had yours, and I'm not exactly sure how long it took but I noticed mine started to get tubers once they were really big. I originally ordered the jeoquinii in fall of 06 and sent them to a friend I trade with in Puerto Rico for the winter because the taros were so small and they wouldn't go dormant there, then he sent them to me last spring...they were still only a foot tall with no tubers. I planted them out and the plants (there were 2) grew to be about 5 feet tall. When I dug them up to put them in the GH last fall they had the bigger tubers/bulbs and baby corms. That was my experience so far with them in the garden, but some of the pups are forming tubers in the GH pretty quickly.. I wonder if the one I just sent Paul pictured above has tubers already, it grew really fast for him....so I don't know how much climate, soil, etc has to do with it also.

Mine had been in the ground about 18 months, I dunno how tall the got to be but they were huge, and had never gone dormant.......I was wondering if cooler weather and that urge to go dormant might be what encourages them to tuber but I doubt yours were any cooler in your greenhouse than they were here last winter outside, so that doesn't make sense.

Glad to know mine are not totally out of the norm though. Maybe Paul will pop in. I am tempted to check on mine where they were relocated to see if they have tubered but they're growing so darned well I don't want to bother them!

I have a Pup Growing on mine Paul

Do they have bulbs Paul or just roots?

Lakeland, FL(Zone 9b)

roots

bummer.

azreno, I really have no idea....I sent the plant pictured to Paul not very long ago as a small pup, which clearly is growing well but not sure if it's old enough to develop tubers. I don't give mine any hardcore fert or anything, just organics (blood meal, compost, etc) and the soil here is hard clay...

so are yours pupping at all?

Mesa, AZ(Zone 9b)

Yep, definitely pupping, I have 5 of various sizes at the moment and shared a few this spring.

azreno.....don't know what to tell you there, that's really different, mine didn't pup before they had nice sized tubers, at least yours are pupping though

this was the first bloom, it did put out another after this
