The leaves are turning crispy on the ends and a couple have brown streaks on them. What is wrong?
Okay Question About Streps.
Crispy leaves have been causing problems in my Streps lately also. I believe it has to do with too much heat or too much bright/direct sun exposure. You can trim the leaves if you care to do so. Either take off the whole leaf or just snip off the tips. You might want to wait for others to reply though before you run and grab your scissors :)
Thanks Mullettman. They are sitting on a table in a window that doesn't get direct sun. I got the scissors waiting for conformation to go to it.
I had that problem also and I found I had the lights to close to the lights ... I cut the tips off and moved my lights higher... Much better now...
Hugs,
Susan
I have had the same problems Makshi. I tried cutting off the leaves that got yucky looking, didn't help my plants.
Welcome to My Life With Streps ... or maybe I should say My Life Without Strep's, since I can't seem to keep one alive for more than a couple of weeks! I didn't have mine on light stands either, after hearing they didn't like heat. I tried some in an East window, some in a South window ... both with very bright light but no direct sun because of all the trees shading the windows. Tried some on the top shelf of plant stands with just filtered light coming through the windows, tried one on a windowsill with a sheer curtain behind to filter the light even more, tried one sitting on a table with a lamp nearby. Still no luck. Our air conditioning stays on most of the year but it's not real cold inside, temp's stay right at 74 - 75 year round. I just give up on Strep's ... they do not like my house for some reason, not one has lived for very long no matter how hard I try, Nothing ... Nada ... Zilch ... Zero ... Zip - not one has survived under my care!
:(
Makshi...........even when my streps are 'healthy' they get bad yucky leaves. I keep pinking shears close and just trim the bad parts of the leaves off. I don't like to leave any dead plant material around on any plant as it encourages all kinds of bugs and pests problems.
Just this week I sat on the floor trimming off any dead or ugly part of strep leaves. You can certainly use regular scissors but I like the pinking shears as it gives the plant a nicer look.
^_^ That brings back memories Gail. Kinda sounds like playing "Strep Paper Dolls"!
Lin, that is so true! (LOL) I take trays of plants, put them on the floor in front of the TV , and get my pinking shears to 'make them purty'!
