I am having a bit of trouble with Sydney our rescue...we have had her for three months and my husband still can't pet her...she is good with me most of the time but has her moments of complete and utter fear...She is completely dependent on my other Dane and one of our Bulldogs...does nothing without them near. She will go come right over if they are near.
I am having a hard time training her since she just doesn't trust us yet...I know it may take a long time but because she is having so much trouble she is also becoming destructive...It's hard to even get her on the leash to get out for some exercise. I know all about positive reinforcement training and reward but when she gets in her frightened mode no matter the treat there is no interest at all. Complete submission on the floor with out movement...almost like she is playing dead! LOL She absolutely can't be crated as her confinement for a year was punishment for her...she finds nothing good with the crate....again no matter the treat she isn't going in with out physical help and that isn't something I will do to her... she will pee her pants at that point...so a real hard time with the pooping and peeing through the night has begun....
I tried a trainer that actually works with fearful and aggressive dogs at our SPCA but all she did was play dead for her too...basically I was wasting time and money...
It has been suggested by my adoption coordinator, when we thought about sending her back, to try Prozac to help calm her and be able to begin some kind of positive training program.
Gosh that got pretty winded...LOL any one use it? Opinions and or advice please.
