I recently stayed at a cottage next door to my parents' house for a family reunion. From my parents' house, this lovely garden is not visible. I thought is was worth discussing its design.
I really like the multicultural aspect of the garden. There are three different continents represented here: Antarctica, Europe, and North America. All three cultures seem to coexist peacefully. In fact, I believe that's a peace pipe in the chief's hands.
It also has four seasons of interest since the wooden tulips will bloom and be visible for three seasons, and the birds coming to the feeder will provide the fourth season's interest (although the small wooden birds on the ground will not provide much interest under a foot or two of snow).
It appears to be low maintenance since trimming the grass around the natural stone edging doesn't look like it's a problem.
I'm not sure what to say about the scale. Maybe a larger windmill would have been prohibitively expensive. I believe the Dutch say, "Better to have a small windmill than no windmill at all." Of course I believe a lot of things that aren't necessarily true.
What are your thoughts? Please discuss.
