Ugh smoke from fires North of us blowing South.

Its hot humid and very smoky out side. Can stay out but a few minutes. Its blowing every where. Hope we get the rain forcast for tonight.

I hope you get the rain, too. That's no fun. When I lived in Southern California I had that happen a couple times, very scary. How close are the fires? Stay safe!

The fires are about 80 miles away. But the South winds brought us the smoke and hopefully today it will blow on thru.

Lavina, we just drove through it....pretty much from Selma to New Bern the sky was all hazy. I haven't been able to find much about it yet, what happened?

Trop - we are getting the smoke here today as well - its from wildfires they have burning down toward the coast of NC. From the WRAL news site "the fire began with a lightning strike June 1 in the Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge, about 40 miles from the Atlantic coast."

Trop, the skys are clearing up here in Alliance so I feel better. It has been a mess.

Just to make you feel better Lavina, we are getting it today in Raleigh. Ugh--the smell makes me nauseous. Woodsmoke smells so good on a frosty night, but not on a 90 degree day! Here's the funny thing, though, my plants are loving it---it blocks the intense sun we've been having. First day in quite awhile everything's not wilted...go figure....

To top it all off we have a woods fire about a 1/4 mile up the road from us this AM, sure hope they get it put out. Our grass crunches as you walk on it its so dry and hot.

Yote Raleigh can really get smoggy in the summer even when there has been no fog.I used to think on the way to work and wonder where all that stuff comes from since no fires were being reported then.

My boyfriend said that it was hazy there yesterday. Thanks for the info, my daughter's theory was that we grown-ups haven't been doing enough to stop global warming and we might have been due for big problems right about now...lol

A close friend had surgery at Duke this week and they tell me the smoke in Durham this morning is horrible. It is really burning their eyes to the point where it is hard to drive.

How odd, Im in south Durham and it's pretty clear here and I can barely smell the smoke anymore, but its amazing how different N. and S. Durham are...
