Do Japanese Cobra Lilies fall in this category? I LOVE them, but can't find the one I want for less than $25. What if I killed it!
Japanese Cobra Lily
Yes they do, I have some for trade if you have something good,(hardy orchids, lilium lophophorum or Calopogon) I bet you are thinking of Arisaema Sikokianum, A lovely plant. One other genus is commonly referred to as cobra lily; the carnivorous plant genus Sarrecenia.
That is the one I want. I never could find the name at the botanical garden, but finally I made a very concerted effort to insist I get it the name this year. I've only known about it for 3-4 years. I think it is spectacular. But no, I have nothing worthy of a trade like that. I'm getting up the courage to buy one, I just have to trust that I can keep it ideally happy! I would be devistated if I bought it and it died or just withered away over time.
I'm going to do a bit more reasearch on it's likes and dislikes and then bite the bullet. I'm sure I will find lots of info. & tips throughout this thread.
Thanks for confirming I'm in the right place. I'm glad I noticed this thread existed. ^_^
Hey 3gardeners; it needs really good drainage average or moderate organic matter and could use a boost of fertilizer every five of six weeks from march/april to june/july, then lay off and keep it's feet dry in the winter, this is very important because the number one way to lose Sikokianum is wet rotten sticky soil in winter, you can mix alot of pummice, perlite and quarter-ten gravel deep in the hole or just palnt it in a raised bed. If you have warm wet winters (above freezing most of the season) I would recommend covering it for the winter. I have seen many do very well for long periods of time in containers. You should get a few and then it is easy to get viable seeds. Good gardening
P.S. Let me know what you do have, who knows?
