I'm missing my hummingbirds

Lumberton, TX(Zone 8b)

Is there anything I can do? Several weeks ago I had my little ruby-throated visitors, but then we had a pretty bad windstorm which demolished the arch in my herb garden. They didn't nest there, but they did perch there. The storm could well have gotten their nest, as I believe it was in the tree behind my fence. Would that have made them utterly desert the place? Because I haven't seen one since the storm. :(

I don't know if they are gone for good. My hummingbirds are scarce now too. I think they are just nesting now. I remember this happening last year too. They should be back, so keep your feeders ready for them. : )

Same here too. My feeders are usually all abuz but not this week. I am going to take in my feeders and get fresh food out. Hoping they are busy feeding on all those flowers that I planted for them.

I don't know about the rest of y'all but we've had just enough rain that there are lots of nectar flowers blooming for my hummers right now. I usually have more than I do right now too. My feeders do usually get a lot more traffic in July and August when flowers are more scarce.

I've had more this year than I ever have unless they are migrating. They showed up the first week of april , but disapeared by the 3rd week. They came back about the middle of may and are everywhere. I am afraid to think how many I'll have during fall migration.

Good for you, Melody!! It seems like since I increased hummingbird feeders from two to four, I have less hummingbirds. The Boss (an Anna's Hummingbird male) is watching all of them closely...LOL. Luckily, he can't be in two places at once but he tries. I hope for your sake that you have a lot of hummers during the migration. I have found it to be a pleasing chore to send them on their journey with a full stomach.

Thanks for sharing,

Chuck

Well, I've seen all of ONE hummingbird since I first wrote. A friend who also puts out feeders says it will be July before they're going nuts again. So, chalk it up to this being my second year of putting up feeders. I'm going to trust they'll be here!

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

they seem to have bypassed Alabama. haven't seen any

Conroe, TX(Zone 8b)

I thought I was the only one who noticed. My hummers were here for a few weeks and the last three weeks have been scarce also. Hopefully they will be back

I had several in late April and May but now I rarely see them. I can hear them sometimes maybe they are busy with their families. My neighbor also feeds them so they could be visting her feeders more.

I hadn't seen a hummer for 5 days, but I just saw the female at the feeder. She was very quick - she probably had to get back to her nest.

He's solidly back now; don't know when or whether the groups will show up -- I'm just glad to have my little fellow back!
