Hi janastasio, I love the turtles! Wish I could have ducks. When did your Silkies' topknots come in?

Walpole, NH

Arent those turtles just too cute! The silkies got there top knot in the last 2 weeks, I think! It comes in so gradually that its hard to tell exactly when! The pics dont do them justice, they are adorable little fluff balls!

Very cute little ducks.Mine are geting friendlier.

Thank you for the info on the Silkie-do. I was starting to wonder about my Silkie "Riley" because at 6 weeks he still doesn't have a poof on top. But just today I notices that a little wisp is sticking up--so there is hope!

Walpole, NH

Catscan, that sounds about right. They do start getting those wispies and then one day you look at them and boom, there they are! Its like that with kids, trying to keep track of those first moments. I'm awful at that stuff. My kids baby books are so bare! My kids were so gradual with their first words, steps ect. Is that bad I'm comparing my kids firsts with silkie chickens top knots!?

Novinger, MO(Zone 5b)

Nah, not bad at all.....shhhh, I won't tell......they are your babies after all right? All those pictures are so cute. Wow, the picture of the turtle and babies was amazing! : )

Elizabethton, TN(Zone 7a)

Janastasio--thanks for all the pics! The turtles are great! I love the pic of the silkies--they are adorable. And, no, its not bad to refer to them/compare them to kids hahaha....our 2 gelding horses (4 yr. olds) are affectionately referred to as "our boys"(we have 4 human daughters haha)The girls refer to them as their "4 legged spotted brothers" :-) They're appaloosas. I suppose they are the only sons we'll ever raise :-)

Janastasio you are right! A couple days ago I saw just a wisp on Riley's head--today he has a mohawk! He is the oddest color--very dark charcoal grey with sort of dark golden buff on the tips of the feathers around his neck and chest. I've never seen a Silkie like that--does anyone know what it might be?

Walpole, NH

Catscan, that coloring sounds quite interesting. Maybe a new coloration!!! Your could call it a Blue Splash!

Thanks for the compliments everyone!

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

oh those turtles are so cute... os the little one looks exaclty like mine when they were babies... are they family??? is that the mom???

Walpole, NH

Dont think they are family, but you never know! We found them both outside in different locations. We live up the road from a pond. This is the time of year when the big turtles are crossing the road to lay their eggs.

Luther, MI(Zone 4b)

Yep, and also the time when most of them get run over and killed. I was told that if you want to help them, make sure you take them in the direction they are going and put them on the side of the road. Otherwise, they will just turn around and go back onto the road and possibly get run over.
