Mr. Toad in Toad Hall

Perth,, ON(Zone 5a)

found a strange oval hole about 3 inches across in one of my garden beds......

just for fun, and to see if the hole was inhabited, I placed a light piece of bark over the hole..... next morning the bark was moved aside, and dirt from the inside of the hole was moved back to fill it back in......

early evening same day, I gently moved the dirt aside........ and there he was, golden eye blinking at me

Oh, how cool! Wish I had a toad in my garden. LOL. Well, I have a couple actually. Ceramic ones that is. ;)

Double Cool! I don't think I have ever seen one in Edmonton, or anywhere but a zoo!
Thanks for the view.

Haha....toad in the hole! Isn't that some sort of British dish?

Great shot and neat way to find out who the resident was!

Great picture! Don't you just love finding toads in your gardens?

Perth,, ON(Zone 5a)

lol, ginnylynn, I prefered finding the toad instead of finding the snake my son found in the yard.

Just couldn't resist that photo!

I'm very pleased to have finally found Mr. Toad's residence. I thought I had a toad around, kept finding toad poo on the patio at the greenhouse..... now I know where he lives, I will avoid digging with any tools in that bed.

We did have a large toad around several years ago. That summer the kids would take turns feeding him small earthworms.

(the snake was id'd as an eastern milk snake, it just LOOKs like a massassauga rattlesnake)

Cool! no toads here sigh.

Mr. Toad sent me a message, and he does have a sense of humour!

this morning when I went to water in the greenhouse, I came across a toad turd inside the greenhouse.......

message received Mr. Toad.

I won't mess with your house.....

it made me laugh!

We went to plant three cedars, and found Mr. Toad in my holding area yesterday,

Here he is, surprised to have been found.

Fun pics! Well, now I just have to know - what does a toad-turd look like?

Sandy

Me too. It will be my first view of a toad turd pic ^_^

Perth,, ON(Zone 5a)

rats, didn't get a pic of the turd..... but it was about as big as my little pinky finger, dark, almost black in colour and 'gooey' looking......

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

OMG that's relatively HUGE for the size of Mr. Toad :O

Blyth, ON(Zone 5b)

LOL Ohhh! This is absolutely priceless. Does anyone mind if I copy & paste the contents of the posts dealing with toad turds to show a friend with a wicked sense of humour? She'll just about die laughing :-)

Edited to add: all names and identifying info will of course be removed first. It will just be Gardener #1, Gardener #2, etc.

(s'ok with me, Ginny)

driven - as big as your pinkie! Sheesh! Next time you see one will you promise to get a picture for us? I suppose we couldn't convince you to go toad-turd-hunting on purpose, huh?

LMAO sanannie. drivenbonkers goes on a toad turd safari. I can picture her lurking behind a daylily waiting to snap the perfect pic. This could be Nobel prize material. GO GIRL GO!

Perth,, ON(Zone 5a)

lol, share away, and you CAN use my name!

obviously Mr. Toad is eating well.......he is a chunky little porker, I picked him up to move him off the root ball of the cedar......

next time I find a toad turd, I'll get it to smile and get a pic.....

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

I wanna see the toad turd too! Have only every had ONE in my garden and that was probably 2 decades ago. Dunno why. There's lots of green stuff.

Sandy at least has frogs.
