Tags and Google Analytics

When I tag a post it takes a long time (seems like an eternity in nanoseconds LOL) before I can key the name of the tag and enter it. During that time Google Analytics is running. What is Google Analytics? Is it really necessary for tagging? Can I disable it or speed it up somehow?
