I came across two small maypop vines near where we live. I dug them up but was only able to get a few inches of root because they were in hard clay. Right now they are in a glass of water under a grow light.
Will these plant root using this method? The vines are about a foot long.
Maypop propagation
If the root was intact, I'd just plant it. The vine may die back, but the root can survive and send up new shoots--may take over a month to do it, so don't give up. Maypops are very difficult to root from a regular cutting, but will grow and spread readily from the roots.
yes~! get them in damp soil or cool roots with moderate AM sun 4-6 hrs., mine have propageted well. However if you leave them in water they don't transpant to the soil again as well. I have seen them love living in water, like a Spider plant, practically but then not do well in the ground after~very strange this...

Okay, I kept the cuttings in water for about a week. I eventually transplanted them into small pots filled with dirt. They now have roots coming out the bottom. Now I just need to find a good spot in the yard for them.
