Tomatoes in El Paso

El Paso, TX(Zone 8a)

Help I am having trouble growing tomatoes. Blooms but no fruit. Any suggestions?

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

When did you plant your tomatoes? I would think maybe April 1st or so would be the earliest possible date?

I am not familiar with El Paso's climate specifically, but I see the average last frost date is March 26th.

You want to plant as early as you can safely do so, since it doesn't take long for the heat to shut down the plants and reduce or eliminate fruit setting. If you planted in the first week of April, you would increase your chances for a lot of tomatoes, but would also need to consult accurate weather websites (like http://www.wunderground.com/ ) on a frequent basis to see if overnight temps in the mid-30's are expected. If so, you would need to protect your plants with upside down buckets, blankets, or tarps.
