Darn..Can't find my planting schedule!
There might be some major differences between Houston, TX and Ashdown, AR, but if nothing else it might be an interesting read to check out a planting calendar for Houston:

Thanks
Commond Ground has a great planting calendary for this area.
We are a zone away (9a&b), but perhaps you could skip back a month for zone 8.

Need another one? LSU ag center has a planting schedule too. It has times for North Louisiana too so closer to your area. http://lsuagcenter.com/en/communications/publications/Publications+Catalog/Lawn+and+Garden/Vegetables/planting_guide/Louisiana+Vegetable+Planting+Guide.htm
ok, my link is not working but put in a search for 'vegetable planting guide' and it will go to it.
