I just saw a Stephanotis florabunda today, and I was wondering if any hoya folks grew it, and could let me in on its care. Its a tempting plant to Hoya folks as it looks similar, except for the flowers, and inflorescence.
Stephanotis florabunda
HI...I grow it and it grows easily here...in the WARM/HOT...full sun.... I think that under lights you could grow it there, indoors. It likes lots of water and lots of fert....likes to climb....head in the sun feet in the shade. My blooms are 50' up in the top of a tree so I never see them!!!!
Carol
Your descriptions of the plants in the trees always blow me away, Carol.
Thanks for the note, I have read that they do well as house plants as they only need indirect light, but that one has to handle humidity well, sounds like a good plant for the bathroom in our house.
The plant I saw yesterday was a decent size one, probably an 8" pot, with vines wrapping a small loop mounted above the pot. It was just post bloom, with a 50% markdown to $20. I have read in other forums here that they seem to show up at HD for $9 in pretty decent size. I may keep looking for the time being.
.....great price and remember that if it HAS bloomed it will likely bloom again. You could probably grow it out on your deck next to a wall where it would stay warm at night (in the summer). The fragrance of the Steph. is so incredible I would go for the 20$ bargain...AND with prices going UP so fast...who knows what will happen to 9#.
I may be near your pitch in the fall...visiting my son in Bellingham. We should get together!!!!
Carol
Sure. Thanks for all the thoughts, and take care. See you in the fall.
If you are feeling adventurous...I could try to find yu some seeds....
I need to ponder that one. Seeds are always fun, but I think I need less projects right now.
Carol...if your seed offer is open to anyone else (like me (Ü) I'd love to try some.
I've tried to grow Stephanotis twice now and have failed. Starting from seed is a great way to sort of 'automatically' acclimate a plant.
I'd be very grateful, and happy to pay postage.
Ignore me if I'm out of line!
Not out of line at all...I will try to get some seeds.... They really needs LOTS of warm and lots of light....
