growing Chrysanthemums in 8b

Universal City, TX(Zone 9a)

I have two mums that I received as gifts and placed in my garden. They are doing well, but I have a couple of questions. I read that I should pinch back new growth to keep them compact. Also that I should remove buds until August. The problem-they are so prolific that I can't keep up. Can they be sheared or should I simply leave them alone?

Mine bloom several times a year. I wait until they are finished blooming and give the entire plant a good haircut.

ksathelo, I shear mine back after they bloom. Mine like catlady's bloom several times during the year. I just take a large pair of scissors and lop them off. You can just leave them alone; however, you will have more blooms if you pinch are shear them.

Thanks-I will try shearing after this nest bloom.
