Container combinations - what cha got going?

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

You know the ole expression more is better? LOL So I got to thinking (it was stressful - take my word for it) - what could I throw together in a pot for the ultimate fragrance fantasy? Mind you....this was to be pleasing to the nose...not necessarily to the eyes. Now that i think about it - it might be over whelming to the nose....oh well....I'll learn as I go.
Large pot #1: Datura (double yellow NOID) w/double tuberose clusters....then sprinkled some Evening Scented Stock seeds for good measure.
Large pot #2: Night Blooming Jasmine w/single tuberose clusters....and you guessed it....some Evening Stock Seeds
Large pot 3 & 4: Spicy scented dark purple petunias...and some whites that i found w/a like scent....Nicotiana 'Fragrant Cloud' and tuberose clusters (hey, gonna put em everywhere) - other pot I had less petunias but added Moonflower vines to it

So what chorus of scents are YOU making music with?

Ditto - No body? Ahhh come on now...was hoping to steal others ideas for my own yard.

Can I just add that Stock seeds are amazing...do you know they were already peeking their heads up last night?

San Diego, CA(Zone 10b)

Hey Chantell! you gave me some great ideas...I've had these tuberose clumps and they're not in the ground yet b/c I just couldn't think of a good spot....guess where they're going now? ; )
Question: have you "tested" these fragrant combinations? Do you think none will clash?

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

"Now that i think about it - it might be over whelming to the nose...oh well...I'll learn as I go." ROTFLOL Nope - this IS the test...LOL When everyone goes into respiratory distress I guess I'll know it's "too much" ^_^

hshahahha! I was just wandering b/c I want to do some potted combos too...I want to get some daturas too, I have never smelled one but they're supposed to be super fragrant and ideal for pots!

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Just teasin' with you...cuz the more I think about that NBJ and tuberose the more I think I've lost my mind...though chances of them blooming at the same time would be slim...tuberose won't bloom till Sept-ish for me here.

Rob,

I love daturas, at a distance. To me, up close they smell like cheap industrial restroom deodorizers. :/ I hope the double yellow and purples I planted smell better. :(

Your mileage may vary,

Great.... the essence of "cheap industrial restroom deodorizers" Daturas with the exquisite perfume of tuberose...just sure they'll compliment each other...LOL

I have h. coronarium, hippeastrum x. johnsonii and tuberosa polianthes together in a container, to get back on topic. :P

Ok...so am I the ONLY person that has Butterfly Ginger with NO blooms...year THREE with these....NO BLOOMS....pouting now

Bucyrus, OH(Zone 6a)

I have no blooms yet. Don't pout too much. Three years for me too -- I have never had either blooms. :)

We went to the desert this weekend, and when night fell guess what my Dh found...a Datura plant, right there in the middle of nowhere! I was so excited! He thought I was nuts b/c I kneeled in the sand and kept sniffing and sniffing the blooms....marvelous scent! It's incredible how such a lush plant can grown in dry sand like that...

Ahhh I think it's even better when you come upon something unexpected like that - like finding your own little treasure to enjoy!

San Diego, CA(Zone 10b)

Yes, it was nice! Then I had to order one for my garden, hehehe it arrived yesterday and I think I am going to pot it up in cactus mix...

You might want to read this thread I'd posted in...afterwards you may considering putting it IN the ground http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/633569/

San Diego, CA(Zone 10b)

Thanks Chantell! That thread was very informative on the Daturas! Gosh I'm undecided now! I do want it to spread and reseed, but I thought if I potted it up I could smell it more often if I put it outside my bedroom in the patio...decisions, decisions! lol!

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

I know...I'm still undecided as to put IN the ground or not...problem is with the bigger one...I have things growing beneath it...I'd hate to disturb everything by uprooting it...ugh!!!

San Diego, CA(Zone 10b)

It seems a large pot wouldn't be a problem though, which is good. I was worried about planting my 4" plant on the 12" pot....

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

I would guess the baby I had was in a 2-3" pot...I then put it in the 12"+ pot and is thriving so....go for it!!

San Diego, CA(Zone 10b)

Awesome! Ha! I'll use the pots from the gardenias, hahaha

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

You are SOO bad....do not compost those poor Gardenias...or does that mean you're putting them IN the ground?

San Diego, CA(Zone 10b)

nah, I wouldn't there "finishing them up" although I - AM -AN-NOOOYED - by them! ARGH! lol! I think this weekend I'm gonna take the worst looking one and plant in the ground...what do you think? are yours in full sun or not?

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

depends....my 'Shooting Star' will take full sun the rest need partial sun

San Diego, CA(Zone 10b)

ok...
