I have several Loropetalums that are shaded during the hottest part of the day and I thinking of adding more in an area that has Zero shade.
Can they REALLY handle the extreme heat and sun here without afternoon shade?

Loropetalum in Full Sun?
I don't have an answer for you about how much sun they can handle - but - if it is the color you are after be aware that there is a definite difference in color with sun exposure. I have a large plant (actually just yanked it - roots too close to the propane line) on the north side and another with a south east exposure. I thought that the color would be better in the shade but actually the leaves are a darker plum/purple on the sunny (ier) side. These were all purchased from Home Depot at about the same time.
I too have found they lose color without enough sun. They grow best in the full sun in my neighborhood.
Yes, they can handle it. I'm at Sunset Beach above Myrtle Beach so we're not quite as hot as N. Augusta so you might give a little extra water. I think Columbia and Augusta are the 2 hottest cities God made in the US!
Thanks for all the info, very helpful.
BDunn, I know exactly where Sunset Beach is, spent lots of time there as a kid. And Augusta is very hot, suppose to 101 tomorrow!

I hope they do well in full sun cause that's all I've got !! I bought them for the purple color. I'm ready with the umbrellas tomorrow? lol
OK, tc, you bought the plants for $5. So if you add in the cost of the umbrella, what did they really cost? I'm only picking at you since you got such a good deal! LOL!
The umbrella was free so $5.00 plus tax! HA I've read on these threads that alot of folks get their plants from Lowe's,Home Depot and Wal-Mart when the season is almost over. With this heat this early it's a no brainer Right?
