Bye Bye Dandelions

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

I tried the Distilled White Vinegar, on my lovely dandelions this weather is promoting. Shriveled and dried them up in one day. Supposed to work on most weeds, but I've only tried dandelions. Recommended for spot treatment only because it can harm your grass/plants/flowers. Great for kids, pets and the environment though. About $4.00 for a big jug, cheap too. My dandi's have gotten big enough that I was just careful and sprayed directly into the middle of a couple in the grass and had no problem. Grass fine, dandi dead.

Vicki ~ Thanks for being the "crash test dummy." Good to know something so cheap and pet/environmentally friendly works! Guess I'll be stopping at Costco tomorrow to pick up the 5-gallon jug! Thanks!

Hi Tilly,
I just buy the stuff, pour it into the spray bottle and start spraying. I don't dilute it with anything. I use a thin stream instead of a spray to keep it on the weed I want zapped. It does work better on warm, sunny days, so maybe August ? lol.

Maybe more like Sept. LOL
On my list to do.
Thanks

Yes, the vinegar treatment for dandelions and other weeds!
works best when the sun is shining and it does not get diluted!
Makes the soil at the weed acid, which it does not like, so it dies.

Have used it also. But have not used it this year because of all the RAIN!!!

I want sunshine!

Me too.

I recently experimented with the vinegar treatment also, on that one day that it was sunny and got up into the 80s....seems so long ago. In one location, by my deck steps, I sprinkled straight vinegar on the grass. In another location, by a bed border, I used a spray bottle to apply vinegar to the leaves. The grass in the first location pretty much died. The other grass is beginning to come back from the roots.

I feel like one of those commercials with the people scratching on the store door saying "Open, Open, Open." Only I'm saying "Shine, Shine, Shine."

Interesting - I have a nasty growth of bind weed - I'll give it a go and report back.
