Every year I try to grow catnip and end up with SOME successfully, but neighbor kitties end up with the lion's share. I've got some hanging baskets with seedlings right now, hanging in a tree, but I'm not expecting them to do real well, they usually do best in the ground. My kitty Rosie loves to munch on it fresh, so I bring in sprigs for her but I'd like to have LOTS of it to dry. My other kitty Janey loves it sewn into pillows to play with, and I volunteer at the animal shelter and would like to make a good quantity of catnip pillows for the kitties there. Most dried commercial stuff is so old it's lost it's potency and appeal. Does anyone have any commercial mail order herbal sources they can recommend for good fresh quality catnip?
Dried catnip source recommendations?
Thea, I ordered some felted catnip balls from Willow Ridge Farms for my sister's and my mom's cats and they said it was very fresh. In fact, they had to take it out of the room because I started to have a reaction from it sitting on the table (me and my darn allergies - I can be around the cat but not the catnip!).
They also sell it in bulk. Free shipping.

P.S. That www.localharvest.org link is great. They list CSAs by area, and all kinds of small farms that sell their products.

thea, I used to have an herb shop and nursery, and always bought my dried bulk herbs from Frontier Coop. They had some super "crack-nip" that made all my customers' cats wacko!
Catnip is often used in calming tea mixes, so they have people-quality catnip. They sell in one pound packages which is really handy for making catnip mice or sharing with family and friends.
Here's a link:

That link doesn't want to work, let's try this one:

For some reason I can't get the page to link up properly. If you go to the link and click on next, it does show the catnip sizes and prices.
